Construction The Titanic was made in Belfast by the company Harland and Wolff in It was intended to be the largest and most luxurious ship ever made. It took over 3000 men to build with only Saturday and Sunday afternoons of. The Titanic had three steamed power propellers to make her move through water. It could carry a total of 3,547 passengers including crew.

Facilities onboard It contained many great facilities on board such as : A swimming pool Gymnasium Heated swimming pool Library It could only carry 64 lifeboats but white star line only agreed to put 20 onboard.

Maiden Voyage She began her Maiden Voyage from Southampton to New York City, on Wednesday 10 th April Captain Edward J. Smith was in charge and it was his last job before he retired. The titanic carried some of the wealthiest people ( Millionaires John Jacob Astor IV, Benjamin Guggenhelm and Isdor Strauss.

The Sinking On April 14 th 1912 the weather was unusual for Atlantic because there was a calm sea with no wind. At 11:39pm the two outlooks spotted an iceberg and shouted Iceberg Ahead. But after 37 seconds the iceberg since being slighted it still managed to strike its starboard bow. At midnight the captain was told that the ship was sinking so at 12:25 they started loading lifeboats with women and children. The last lifeboat left at 2:05 am with over 1000 people still on board.

Aftermath After receiving the distress signals, the RMS Capathia arrived at 4:10 to rescue any passengers that were still on board this was 2 hours after it had sunk. At 8:50 they left the area they had picked up 706 passengers. They were all cold, damp and very upset at what had happened. Over 1500 people died
