Indiana Physical Education Academic Standard.  Standard # 2: Applies movement concepts and principles to the learning and development of motor skills National Standard Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities

INTASC Standard  Standard #7 Planning for Instruction The teacher plans instruction that supports every student in meeting rigorous learning goals by drawing upon knowledge of content areas, curriculum, cross-disciplinary skills, and pedagogy, as well as knowledge of learners and the community content.  Description: The physical education lesson plan demonstrates our understanding of INTASC standard # 7, planning. This lesson plan exemplifies our skill of being able to put together a physical activity that enables us to measure each students ability to perform a task.  Rationale: For this assignment we have made a physical education plan that is based on jump roping and reinforces the mathematical knowledge of the students. Within this assignment we have included the loco motor skills, national association for sport and physical education standards, Indiana academic physical education standards.

Student Objective/Locomotor Skills  Student Will: Learn to jump rope to rhythm while reading Math Lingos.  Suggested Grades: 1-3 Equipment Needed: Jump Ropes 26 Organization: Groups of 4 Jump- any combination of using two feet in the following patterns: two feet to two feet; two feet to one foot; one foot to two feet Hop- Takeoff and landing from one foot to the same foot

Equipment  Jump ropes (enough for entire class)  Paper with each rhyme written out

PREPERATION: Before the class starts I will make sure I have the right amount of jump ropes needed for the lesson. I will also make sure I know exactly what task I want the students to perform at each station. I will also make sure I have my assessment form on hand so that I can asses each students skill level.

Introductory/Fitness Activity  For the fitness activity upon entering the gym, the students will run three laps around the gym and then walk a lap. This affects their overall cardio respiratory endurance After running, the class will go through a stretching routine (basic stretches) and muscular strength routine ( push-ups, sit-ups, ect.). By doing this it will help their overall flexibility and overall muscular strength.

Jump Rope Example: I will then demonstrate the regular way to jump rope with both feet. Place Rope placed behind body  Rope held in hands horizontally to the side of the body  When moving rope from back to front, just moves wrists and not arms  Jump off both feet  Establish rhythm  I will then demonstrate the appropriate way to cross your rope while you jump.  Rope placed behind body  Rope held in hands horizontally to the side of your body  When moving rope from back to front, just move wrists and not arms  When swinging rope over body cross your arms, while still jumping  Establish rhythm  I will then demonstrate the appropriate way to double jump your rope  Rope placed behind body  Rope held in hands horizontally to the side of the body  When moving rope from back to front, just moves wrists not arms  Jump higher than normal  Swing rope two times around before you jump again  Establish rhythm

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION:  Throughout the gym there will be placed 4 different jump rope Lingos, in which they all range in levels of Math and tempo.  I will bring the class together as a whole and have them stand in front of the first Lingo while I explain it to them. I will then demonstrate how to correctly jump rope to a Lingo and what exactly I’m looking for.  The class will then read each poster together as a whole, so they understand how each Lingo goes along with its overall tempo.  When we get to the last Lingo, I will then break the class into groups of 4 and put them at each of the four Lingo stations.  I will keep them at each station for 5 minutes.

Closure Activity:  What Lingo was the most challenging?  What Lingos did you like?  Describe one activity, or drill in which the students can practice at home to improve their skills.  Jumping rope outside in their garage or around their house.  Between commercials, do a couple of jumps to improve your ability.

Assessment:  I will have a form with me in which I will make a P,A, or N next to their name pertaining to the various jump rope skills. P means Proficient, A means average and N means needs Improvement.  I will asses students by their ability to jump and their ability to recite the rhymes.

Accommodations:  A lot of the students struggle with jumping rope and being able to get rhythm.  We could lay rope on ground and have child jump over it back and forth to the lingo.  The children that are in a wheelchair can be paired with another student and say lingo while other student jumps.  The children that are in a wheelchair can move the rope from side to side.

Safety Concerns:  Make sure all students are spread far apart to reduce the risk of hitting each other with the jump ropes.  Make sure students have appropriate footwear.

Self Reflection:  Next time this activity is presented to the class we could have them jump rope to something else that’s not math related. If the class were a 4 th or 5 th grade class we could have them jump rope different ways as they recite the 50 states and capitols.
