Surge Protection Every surge protective device or equipment is based on the principle to maintain insulation up to a maximum admissible voltage level. Once this level is exceeded, the surge voltage is short-circuited, in other words, the excessively high potential difference between two conductive parts of a device or an equipment is limited to admissible values. The switch systems used for this operation are called surge arresters or surge protective devices.
