CLIMBING Climbing is a type of sport in which you use whole body. Hands for hanging on, legs for pushing your self up and belly if you climb vertically. I chose to present you information about climbing because I am a climber myself.

TABLE OF CONTENTS Climbing walls Big walls, buldering walls Climbing on rocks Types of rocks for climbing Serious climbing on big mountains Climbing equipment Famous climbers

Climbing walls: Are made of hard and strong wood Have holes in them for grabs to be bolted Can be horizontal and / or diagonal Grabs are: of multiple sizes according to use made of urethane

are: about 15m tall Used for training for longer climbs People secure they ropes to prepared quickdraws or they already have prepared rope secured to the wall. They are secured by their companion are: about 3-4m tall Used for training climbing tactics There is big cca 20cm thick mat on bouldering wall

Climbing on rocks is more dangerous than on walls because you are secured only from bottom and you must secure your rope to the rock It is more exciting because you are in nature and rocks can be higher than walls You can also do bouldering on rocks, there are portable bouldering mats for this purpose

Limestone- has least friction but most grabs, - can be found in Ireland, France, England, Canada,... Sandstone- very big friction but less grabs, -made of sand, -it was once the sea botom, -can be found in UK, Czech Republic,... Granite- more friction and less grabs than limestone but less friction and more grabs than sandstone -can be found in Canada, United States of America, Russia, China, Japan, Green land,...

It is harder than on wall or rocks because mountains are higher Mountain climbing is combination of rock climbing, ice climbing and walking

rope- security Climbing shoes- better leg friction, easier climbing Mat- bouldering Magnesium- better hand friction Brush- cleaning grabs Eight Descender- for getting down of a rock Carrabin- for HMS knot (security), securing to rope (on walls) Quickdraws - for securing the rope Seat- for sitting while going on or down of a rock, wall “Istítko“ – securing climbing companion Clinch- they are nailed to a rock, used to hold quickdraws Anchors- as clinch plus glued Ice axes- for holding on ice Crampons- for walking on ice

Wanda Rutkiewicz 1943–1992 -first woman to climb the mountain K Edmund Hillary 1919–2008 -first to climb Mount Everest Tenzing Norgay 1914– second to climb Mount Everest with Hillary Junko Tabey first woman to climb Mount Everest Reinhold Messner first solo ascent to Mount Everest, without supplemental oxygen
