 Our purpose for researching the history of Lakewood Elementary was to know all the answers to our burning questions that we wanted to know about Lakewood Elementary. For example, can you believe how many teachers and students have came and left Lakewood? Stop and take a minute to think about how many fifth graders are leaving at the end of the year. We estimate the answer to be about sixty children. We should all know the history of the school that we love, and appreciate how far we have come.

What We Used to Have in 1970’s-1990’s: - Old computers - Chalk Boards - Tables instead of desks - Record Players - Some carpet and fencing - Metal and wood playground

 Students in these days were allowed to walk or ride their bikes to school if they lived close enough.  Also, students could go home for lunch!!  6 th grade elves- Students in the 6 th grade were allowed to have a class during the holidays. They were in charge of teaching a class a fun activity while the teachers could have a break.

 In 2003, there was 6 th grade, along with patrols.  In , Lakewood Elementary was Pre K-5.  Lakewood Elementary had these organizations: Bowling TeamGirl Scouts Basketball TeamsSwim Team Cheerleading SquadsChandler Club Drama ClubChess Club - Also Pre-K was only in the morning.

The teachers at Lakewood have changed BIG time. The teachers back then had to wear fancy clothes and went to the beauty salon once a week for their hair to be just perfect. Teachers did not teach like they do today either. They taught very dull without hands on activities. At Lakewood a long time ago, teachers were different than today. A form of discipline was time out or even getting paddled! Yes, we said it, PADDLED!

 Lakewood is located in St. Albans, West Virginia.  We have a Mobile Lab full of laptops with a brand new computer lab that is available to all classes.  Reading and Math Interventions  Fundraisers,  Text Books  Popcorn,  Laker Store  TVs.– FLAT SCREEN  21 classes  Pre-K – 5 th grade  Silver Spoons  Party with the Principal!!  PROJECTS

 We would like to especially send a “thank you” to: - Ms. Jane Roberts - Mrs. Jodi Ballard - Former students - Parents - Mrs. Kathi McCormick - Mr. Wolfe - And all other people who were involved in this creation!
