Business Intelligence Roadmap

WebFOCUS Key Mission Expand the current reach of BI from under 20% to 100% and beyond How… Embracing the needs of each user constituency Executives, analysts, frontline workers, mobile workers Partners, customers, citizens Making it Easy to use Cost effective Scalable & portable The main reason why organizations have not exceeded the limitations of 20/20 is due primarily to the sole focus on the traditional users of BI – the power users and analysts. Most BI vendors continue to focus their products on this important but very limited community (that most oftentimes access a data warehouse). Many organizations try to extend the use of these products to their non-technical business users, such as field sales, operational employees, administrators, etc. – but are unsuccessful. So, the non-technical business users are limited to static information, which is not what they need. In fact, these mass business users require much more real-time information about their customers, products and processes. WebFOCUS can efficiently access all of your data and provide it dynamically to all of your users – whether those users are inside or outside your firewall. In fact, the most un-served community for BI are the people outside the firewall. Sadly, they are your most ‘high-value’ users – your business partners and your customers. When you serve them properly, you drive performance, efficiency and ROI. WebFOCUS addresses the security, scalability and licensing models to easily provide BI to your extended enterprise. We not only scale from a technology perspective, but from a licensing perspective as well (we don’t require a heavy per seat licensing structure). It is our philosophy that business people need information, not tools. With WebFOCUS, you can easily deploy intuitive BI applications that are easy to use and require no training. (If you can use eBay, you can use WebFOCUS). Chances are you are already using WebFOCUS and don’t even know it. (Ask them if they do business with US Bank, American Express, AT&T, Fidelity, Administaff, etc.).

WebFOCUS Industry Recognition “Information Builders had the best forward progress in the leadership quadrant because of their commitment to leading innovation and their ability to listen and respond to their customers.” James Richardson, Analyst, Gartner BI Conference We are recognized as a leader by all of these independent, industry analysts. The quote from Gartner analyst, James Richardson, highlights the commitment to our core competencies of customer service and technology innovation. This slide is meant to help you build credibility. We’ve received industry recognition for our customer service and support, our product quality and its ease of use, and its overall adoption. We are on top with the Ventana… http://www.informationbuilders.com/news/press/release/8678

WebFOCUS Core BI + Extended BI Front office Mobile Applications Visualization & Mapping App/Dev, Portals & Mash-ups Enterprise Search Predictive Analytics Extended BI Performance Management MS Office & e-Publishing Query & Analysis Dashboards Reporting Information Delivery Core BI Data Warehouse & ETL Business to Business This slide introduces each of the categories. You want to emphasize on this slide that WebFOCUS is a platform that does much more than any other BI platform. Reaching into application types (e.g. predictive analytics, search, performance management, Mobile, data quality and more) that typically will require a company to make additional investments in software from other vendors which requires additional hardware, additional experience and additional training, etc. Many vendors offer you core BI capabilities, but WebFOCUS is unique in its innovation to offer extended BI from the same, integrated platform (you may want to again reiterate our organic growth message – that we provide our customers all of these capabilities not by buying companies, but by developing these capabilities in-house so they all work well together.) You can also reiterate that we not only focus on the pretty pictures, but take responsibility for what happens on the back end as well. WebFOCUS will cover all of your information systems needs from data inception (collection, quality, and movement) to information delivery (reporting, analysis, & distribution) from one common platform and architecture. Data Quality Business Activity Monitoring Master Data Management Extensions to the WebFOCUS platform allow you to build more application types at a lower cost Back office

InfoAssist

Business Intelligence Roadmap Key Drivers for New InfoAssist Capabilities Customers’ development models vary widely Central IT model Development occurring in Business units Shadow IT working w/in Business units Traditional Power User and Developer roles are blurring in many organizations Strong demand for advanced Web-based development features Expanding IA’s features and functionality

Business Intelligence Roadmap New InfoAssist Capabilities Now Available (7.7.02) InfoAssist: Advanced Development Tool End-user dashboards, sophisticated development capabilities, InfoMini (unique in the industry) Dashboards easily created via IA (no need for Developer Studio) InfoMini expands potential deployment of IA and balances “too many features for me” UI can be customized by “developer” for wide range of consumption by power users and information consumers Entire applications & gadgets built and automatically deployed

InfoAssist Plans for Release 8

Business Intelligence Roadmap InfoAssist: Additional Advanced Features Cube Support In 7.7.02: IA provides reporting and analysis development against major cube data sources (SAP/BW, Essbase, MS Analysis Services) Metadata maps to cube structures allowing IA users to view and navigate cube hierarchies Compound documents and dashboards containing both cube and RDBMS sources can be created In 8.0: Extend cube support via new Browser mode for cube databases Allow users to perform analysis, save results, promote analysis into Dashboards, highly-styled reports, Active Technologies, mobile access Multi-step reports (HOLD file creation) Financial Reporting (inter-row calculations, account hierarchies, etc.) In the current WebFOCUS release (7.7.02), InfoAssist provides reporting and analysis development against the major cube data sources. WebFOCUS metadata maps to cube structures, allowing IA users to view and navigate hierarchies as they exist in the cubes. In addition, compound documents and dashboards containing both cube and RDBMS data sources can be created via IA’s Compose mode.   The attached screenshots from the latest Roadmap presentation (pp. 13-18) describe the cube browsing mode planned for Release 8:   Accordion/explorer-style navigation and drill-down w/  multiple dimensions. Accordion/explorer-style navigation and drill-across dimensions Right-click context menus for filtering, calculations, etc. (similar to those found in Active Technologies) Browser mode results can be promoted via single click operation into formatted reports, dashboards, compound documents, any output format, chart, etc. We are building these browser capabilities not to match ProClarity (and other specialized tools like it) feature-for-feature nor to have IA be positioned in the market as the premier cube browsing solution. Rather, we are planning to provide enough functionality to establish even more credibility with cube integration and then to get a prospect or a customer to expand their vision of what can be done with our full product line. Central in this positioning, as always, is that we don’t recommend that large user populations be given a tool for do-it-yourself analysis against cubes that are expensive to create and maintain.  We would replace a product like ProClarity with a combination of a relatively small number of IA users (if appropriate) and a guided adhoc approach that would service most of a given user population.

Planned Cube Browsing Capabilities Expandable Navigation/Drill-Down for Multiple Dimensions Accordion/explorer-style navigation and drill-down w/multiple dimensions.

Planned Cube Browsing Capabilities Expandable Navigation/Drill-Across Dimensions Accordion/explorer-style navigation and drill-across dimensions

Planned Cube Browsing Capabilities Filters Tab

Planned Cube Browsing Capabilities Right-Click Context Menus for Filtering, Calculations… Right-click context menus for filtering, calculations, etc. (similar to those found in Active Technologies)

PMF, Rstat and Magnify

Gartner On improving business performance “Just deploying BI systems and executive dashboards isn’t enough for companies looking to improve their business performance and gain a competitive edge on rivals.” Gartner In summary WebFOCUS is the most comprehensive BI solution. That offers real-world scalability Access to all enterprise data With the lowest cost of ownership and maximum return. The true “Standard For Enterprise Business Intelligence”

Business Intelligence Roadmap Challenges Organizations Face Today Lack of accountability Poor customer value management Frustrations in failing to execute a strategy Poor communication and alignment Unfulfilled ROI promises from IT (lack of integration) WebFOCUS can be used for applications on Intranets, extranets and even on the Internet. The next slide gives some hard-hitting examples Rapid decision making is just a dream

Business Intelligence Roadmap Performance Management Framework Manage the performance of ANYTHING through metrics – people, systems & processes Out-of-the-box framework and data model with strategy maps, scorecards, reports, charts, roles and hierarchies Fully integrated with WebFOCUS Easily combine operational reporting with performance metrics Rapid implementation and time to market WebFOCUS Performance management framework is a complete out-of-the-box solution for performance management – built with WebFOCUS. It includes a data model, alerting system, hundreds of reports including scorecards and strategy maps and over 10 different dashboards. It helps you communicate strategy and track performance of your company, people and processes. It can be up and running in a week compared with 6 months or longer with other solutions. For corporate performance management, not just financial. Business Value: Communicate strategy and improve performance. Drive results to higher standards and identify opportunities for improvement.

Everyone Makes Decisions Business Intelligence Roadmap PMF = Operational Performance Management Operational Performance Management (OPM) is about translating the strategy into operational goals & initiatives Linking the initiative back to any metric in your organization Leading Indicators of performance – not a Rear View Mirror Based on customer facing and operational processes Addresses Any Key Enablers Human Capital Information Capital Organization Capital What we need is a whole new paradigm and we call this Operational Performance Management. We are ideally suited for this endeavor because of our 32 year history of delivering information systems that leverage disparate operational systems and turning into actionable information. What OPM does is it provides the necessary context for people to know what is expected and how to use the information. OPM provides tools and methods to translates strategy in to operational goals and initiatives Which enables you to focus on Leading (causal) indicators of performance The focus is where it needs to be on customer and operational processes Plus it addressed the key enablers to performance, innovation and sustainability Human, Information and Organization Capital Everyone Makes Decisions

Business Intelligence Roadmap PMF is the “How” Communication Dashboards Robust alerting Collaboration Publishing Alignment Operational and strategic closed loops Visual cause/effect tools Aligned projects/initiatives Aligned Processes Feedback loops Cascaded scorecards Pooled metrics Analytics Guided ad hoc and OLAP Trending & predictive analytics Visual analytics and GIS Correlation tools Once the basic strategies and goals have been established tools are needed to motivate and empower everyone in the enterprise to execute on the organizational plans. First powerful tools for communicating performance information via easy to use (no training required) dashboards that include alerts, collaboration and robust publishing capabilities. The Dashboard should provide comprehensive analytical tools that enable users to drill anywhere, evaluate trends to gain real insight. To achieve alignment a rich framework is needed for creating strategies and maintaining metrics and dimensions to propagate strategies and goals throughout the organization. With superior Communication, Analytics and Alignment the foundation for continuous performance improvement is in place.

Business Intelligence Roadmap PMF – Strategy Map Map out your path to success Understand the risks you face that may inhibit you Transform goals into measurable objectives Communicate to everyone Everyone is accountable Strategy Risks What risks may effect the outcome? Where are we going?
