HISTORICAL, BIBLICAL, & ROYAL BACKGROUND King James VI was the “King of Scots” At his time, he was the longest reigning king, he reigned for nearly six years. James’ reign lasted from July 24 th 1567 to March 27 th James was a scholar during the Elizabethan period, as well as housing in his country many innovators such as William Shakespeare. His predecessor was Mary, the Queen of Scots. He was married to the Anne of Denmark. King James is well known for the King James Bible. Below is a recent picture of the Edinburgh Castle.

FAMILY BACKGROUND James’ father was Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley and his mother was Mary, Queen of Scots. He was born on June 19 th, 1566 in the famous Edinburgh Castle. ] He died March 27 th, 1625 at the age of 58. James was buried in Westminster Abbey. His mother faced many tribulations as she was Catholic in a predominately Protestant area, therefore James spent much of his upbringing with the Earl of Mars. STORIES OF THE KING King James is most famous for furthering the education of English literature. He did this by translating the Bible into English, which now bears his name as the “King James” version of the Bible. This translation is considered to be one the best.

SYMBOLS King James had no particular symbols, however he is famous for the Union of the Crowns. The Union of the Crowns is when James was crowned as the monarch for both England and Scotland. This is the Union of the Crowns symbol.

STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSESS King James VI was considered successful in Scotland, however not as lucky in England. He did further the education of literature in England, which he is widely appraised for. Recently, people have been closely studying his ruling and are giving him more praise. A strength of his was his aim for peace, which all rulers should have. He kept his countries peaceful for over 20 years. It is also said that the King possessed a good memory and was intellectual. His weaknesses were unimportant ones compared to some of his success, including bad hygiene and poor manners. However when you are a king the way you act and look matters just as much to the people, and these things made him unlikeable to some.

QUOTE “It is one of God's blessings that we cannot foreknow the hour of our death; for a time fixed, even beyond the possibility of living, would trouble us more than doth this uncertainty.” Although this quote is rather forward, I chose it because I agree with it very much. King James VI is essentially saying that it is a blessing to not know our fate, because if we did we would dwell upon is more than we now do on its uncertainty.
