European Nations Take Over Most of the territory was split between France and G.B after W.W. I. (1920 to 1948) Europeans had control since before the 19th century (1800’s) MANDATES - Countries were promised independence by a certain date.

Conflict Over Palestine Jews and Arabs lived in this area on/off for over 2,000 years After W.W. II, the territory became Israel, mostly a Jewish state War broke out immediately within the country (Jews vs. Arabs) WAR - P.L.O. - LAND SETTLEMENT DEALS

Why Israel Was Created

Sources of Conflict Religious/Real Estate differences have caused all of the conflict and wars Iran & Iraq - OIL Islamic War - Shiites vs. Sunni Nationalism - Iraq - Kurds want their own country (What did it take for Israel to get their own country?) Fundamentalism - strict RELIGIOUS laws

War on Terror Kurds Flee Iraq

Wars in the Region The Iran-Iraq War - 8 years over disputed land (OIL) and branches of religion The Persian Gulf War - Iraq invades Kuwait over OIL (U.S.A. kicks Iraq out of Kuwait) War with Iraq to /11 and suspected nuclear weapons/terror camps Rebuilding Iraq - Finally coming to an end... Costing U.S. $10 billion a month!
