Ms. Elias US History iMater Academy

From 1500s and early 1600s many English, French, and Dutch explorers hoped to find the northwest passage. Northwest Passage was a direct water route through the Americas that would lead to Asia. One of these explorers was John Cabot.

Main contributions: He was the first European to set foot in mainland north America. Allowed the English to make claim of North America—that is why we speak English in North America. He proved that Native Americans in North America could be “civilized.” and transformed into Englishmen.

Why do nations what to find the Northwest passage? Who has given John Cabot a patent? Who may John Cabot bring on his voyage (trip)? King Henry VII, asks John Cabot to follow one rule. What condition (rule) does Henry VII place upon John Cabot? (1 st paragraph) Who is John Cabot acquiring these lands for? Where are John Cabot and his sounds only allowed to land after they return? How much is John Cabot required to pay the King of England?
