From Homelessness to Hope, One Family at a Time Hoffman Estates, IL

Since 1991, we’ve believed that the need to serve single mothers and their children is our direct calling. To date we served over 600 women and children in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. “to look after the orphans and widows in their distress...” —JAMES 1:27

Fellowship Housing is an independent, 501(c)3 non-profit organization two year transitional housing program serving Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg, IL. Our mission is to transform the lives of homeless or at- risk single moms and their children by providing safe, affordable housing and holistic mentoring to guide them from crisis to long-term stability. Serving Northwest suburban Chicago

Families both moms and kids receive housing and more… ‣ Safe Shelter in retail grade apartments ‣ Stabilizing the family crisis areas ‣ Advocacy / Counseling / Support services ‣ 1:1 Dedicated Time with Case Manager ‣ Dental and Medical care access ‣ Basic life skills training ‣ Reducing debt / Increase savings ‣ Accountability ‣ Financial Literacy / Stewardship Training ‣ Parenting Classes ‣ Preparation for independence / Goal setting ‣ Support in a community approach / Group activities ‣ Educational / Vocational Planning

Program Requirements ‣ Single mother; ‣ 21 or older; ‣ Full time job; ‣ Own a working vehicle with current insurance; ‣ 3 or less children ages infant—18; ‣ 18 families in the program.

Housing situations entering our program... ‣ 49% staying with friends and family ‣ 35% are facing eviction or foreclosure ‣ 10% are in a shelter ‣ 4% are living in unsafe housing ‣ 2% are homeless ‣ In 2011 we received 678 calls for help a 47% increase from 2010.

Intake Process ‣ Meet basic program requirements including making $1,400/month; ‣ Educated about program and level of commitment required; ‣ Run and discuss credit report; ‣ Three interview process: overview, social history and acceptance.

Year 1 in our Program ‣ Focused on stability; ‣ Create a plan of attacking debt, increasing savings and increasing credit score; ‣ Establish goals with case manager; ‣ Create a monthly budget with case manager;

Year 2 in our Program ‣ Focused on creating a plan for the future; ‣ Actively working towards housing of their choice; ‣ Increasing savings and paying down debt; ‣ Utilizing debt retirement program.
