The Main Message of the Bible God’s Great Exchange The Main Message of the Bible
If you were to die tonight, are you sure you would have eternal life?
What is it that makes you certain? Or, to put it another way...
If you were to die tonight and stand before God and he should ask you, "Why should I let you into my heaven?" ..what would you tell him?
What God Demands
“Be holy, because I, the Lord your God am holy” (Leviticus 19:2).
To be holy means to be completely set apart from sinners, to be without sin, without a flaw of any kind, to be absolutely perfect.
What God Demands + HOLINESS – SIN
“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’” (Luke 10:27).
“Do this,” said Jesus to the man, “and you will live” (Luke 10:28).
What God Demands + HOLINESS – SIN = LIFE
What God Sees
“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
“Your iniquities have separated you from your God” (Isaiah 59:2).
What God Sees – HOLINESS + SIN
“The wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23).
What God Sees – HOLINESS + SIN = DEATH
As sinners, how can we possibly be in a right relationship with God?
Try harder Try Harder
Balance one SIN
Balancing Act Balance two SIN GOOD
comparison Comparison
SIN GOOD “no” to all three
“There is a way that seems right to a man but in the end it leads to death” (Proverbs 16:25).
“Whoever keeps the whole law, and yet stumbles at just one point, is guilty of breaking all of it” (James 2:10).
GOD'S GREAT EXCHANGE
Jesus Christ eternal Son of God became the Son of Man
Cross
“Can any of you prove me guilty of sin” (John 8:46)?
By his holy, sinless life, Jesus perfectly fulfilled every requirement of God to qualify for life with God now and life with God forever.
What God Demands + HOLINESS – SIN = LIFE
“The Lord laid on him the iniquity of us all” (Isaiah 53:6).
God made Jesus guilty of our sins!
our sins Our sins to him + HOLINESS – SIN = LIFE
“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me” (Matthew 27:46)?
“It is finished” (John 19:30)! Our debt to God has been paid!
But what about God's other requirement... ...that of holiness?
our sins his holiness His holiness to us + HOLINESS – SIN = LIFE
God has credited Jesus’ holiness to us! “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21). God has credited Jesus’ holiness to us!
He’s life, we’re death our sins his holiness + HOLINESS – SIN = LIFE
He became what we were our sins his holiness He became what we were = DEATH – HOLINESS + SIN = DEATH He became what we were
We became what we were not our sins his holiness We became what we were not – HOLINESS + SIN = DEATH + HOLINESS – SIN = LIFE We became what we were not
What God Demands + HOLINESS – SIN = LIFE
“The wages of sin is death… God's Promise “The wages of sin is death… …but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).
“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31).
“It is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8,9).
“Nothing in my hand I bring. Simply to Thy cross I cling.”
“Why should I let you into my heaven?”
In faith we point to Jesus and say, “He's why you should let me into heaven. Your Son has opened the way for me. He is my Savior.”
