jpschools.org What do you want for your students who are taking PARCC in 2016? Scenario 1: Your students taking the PARCC Test being blindsided by pictures, videos, and interactive questions. Scenario 2: Your students taking the PARCC Test while confidently combating all of the pictures, videos, and interactive questions thrown their way. ATTENTION LEADERS!!!! Don’t be scared…BE PREPARED!!!

jpschools.org OK, LEADERS, WHAT DO WE KNOW? Our students are digital natives and our job is to TALK THEIR LANGUAGE!!! What is their language? Teacher lecture and reading print text all day…NOT!!!!!!! So what is it you ask?? Multimedia + Printed Text = AUTHENTIC LESSONS & HIGH STUDENT ENGAGEMENT

jpschools.org LEADERS, what do you know about authentic lessons with high student engagement?

jpschools.org SO LEADERS… HERE IT IS… THE COLD HARD REALITY OF WHAT YOUR STUDENTS WILL BE FACING… The Facts Are: Common Core standards demand an increased emphasis on the analysis across multiple texts, often of varied genres and media. Several standards, especially for reading literature, require inter-textual and multi-media analysis.

jpschools.org  Teachers must make media integration part of daily lessons.  Students must be navigating media while comparing/contrasting written and spoken text with graphic images, animation and video.  Suggested Media Resources: Louisiana Guide Book Library of Congress Discovery Education PARCC Practice Tests nbclearn - Google Search iready.com Click on Hyperlink to access the above websites LEADERS, WHERE TO BEGIN?

jpschools.org JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT IT COULDN’T GET MORE FUN… Integration of media is not enough… students must knowledgeable using technology to answer multistep questions.

jpschools.org IN CLOSING, MULTIMEDIA IS THE REALITY OF HOW KIDS ACCESS INFORMATION IN THE REAL WORLD. THEREFORE, IT IS A MUST THAT LESSONS ARE DESIGNED WITH MEDIA FOR AUTHENTIC STUDENT LEARNING TO TAKE PLACE. I will leave you with one question to ponder.
