From The Beginning Genesis 1-3

From The Beginning (Genesis 3:1-5) Now the serpent was more subtle than any other wild creature that the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God say, 'You shall not eat of any tree of the garden'?" And the woman said to the serpent, "We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden; but God said, 'You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.'" But the serpent said to the woman, "You will not die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." (RSV) (Genesis 3:6-7) So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate; and she also gave some to her husband, and he ate. Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves aprons. (RSV)

From The Beginning (Genesis 3:13-15) Then the LORD God said to the woman, "What is this that you have done?" The woman said, "The serpent beguiled me, and I ate." The LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, cursed are you above all cattle, and above all wild animals; upon your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life. I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel." (RSV)

Satan’s Temptation Is Based On A Lie! “First soliciting the mind through a question, a perplexity, Then passing to a direct contradiction of God’s Word, and blasphemous suggestion of His ill-will towards man, together with an excitement of pride and overweening desire in man’s heart. The serpent did not directly open the door of disobedience. He led the woman up to it, and stirred in her the evil thought of passing through it.” Satan suggested doubts as to God’s love and God’s truth. The Pulpit Commentary on Genesis

The Character Of Satan (John 8:44) You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks according to his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies. (RSV) (Revelation 12:9) And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world--he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. (RSV)

Satan’s Intent (2 Corinthians 11:3) But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ. (RSV) (1 Peter 5:8) Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking some one to devour. (RSV)

Consequences of Believing Satan’s Lie (Numbers 32:23) But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the LORD; and be sure your sin will find you out. (RSV) (Proverbs 6:27-28) Can a man carry fire in his bosom and his clothes not be burned? Or can one walk upon hot coals and his feet not be scorched? (RSV) (Galatians 6:7-8) Do not be deceived; God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption; but he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. (RSV) (1 John 1:6) If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. (NKJV)

Remember Satan’s End (Revelation 12:12) "Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time." (NKJV) (Revelation 20:10) The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. (NKJV)

What Attitude Should We Have? (James 4:7) Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. (RSV) (1 Thessalonians 5:22) Abstain from all appearance of evil. (KJV) (2 Corinthians 10:5) casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, (NKJV)
