“You Are The Light of the World”

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is not longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. 14 You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” (Mt. 5:13-16)

SALT = Preservative of food SALT stops rotting, decay of food and adds savor & flavor Jesus’ Illustration: WE [Christians] stop the rot and decay of morality in society and culture. We preserve what is good. We add SAVOR to life--- meaning, purpose & mission.

But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is not longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. (Mt. 5:13b) Loss of saltiness = Loss of purpose for existence

What makes us salty? 1) Relationship with Jesus 2) Holy Spirit inside 3) Obedience to God’s leading

What does LIGHT do? 1)Provides guidance… …vision… …sight… …wisdom 2) Dispels darkness… …overcomes evil 3) Provides security… …. and peace
