Compulsory tasks Reading Read for a minimum of 15 minutes a day for at least 4 days each week. Each time you read, record the book, magazine or article and time spent reading. If you do not record your reading in your diary you will need to make this up at lunch time. Diaries are checked when your homework is due and need to be up to date and available for checking. English Choose 2 activities that will support you with your learning, your goal or that will challenge you! Tell me a story Sometimes we do not need to write every story we create, using dot points to help are you able to orally tell a family member a story you have created? You might want to plan this story before you start using a procedure. Your story does not have to be true but it does need to start with action and finish with a bang. Some ideas for topics could be The worst, most embarrassing moment of my life. Whenever the wind blows I feel… You can bet I will never do that again. You don’t have to do these story ideas, put your green hat on and be creative, what other ideas can you think of? Dynamic Dialogue Start one of the following story ideas with dialogue. There is a prep student who follows you everywhere including the toilets. Every time someone says your name, the phone rings. When your socks start to smell they turn bright orange. Your new glasses make you see all the colours wrong- e.g. blue apples and purple lemons. Don’t forget to punctuate your dialogue correctly! Hoop Time or Mini Fete Recount Using what you have learnt during our sizzling starts, planning and dynamic dialogue lessons write an interesting recount on your Hoop Time excursion. Don’t forget to start at the action! Go Beyond Once you have finished can you VCOP your story. I would love to see this editing in your book! Mathematics Choose 2 activities that will support you with your learning, your goal or that will challenge you! Converting measurements Out of a Coles, Safeway, IGA or Aldi catalogue cut out 5 different products. Make sure when you cut out the items you are able to see either their grams or millilitre amounts. See if you can convert these measurements from grams to kilograms and from litres to millilitres. Go Beyond Can you measure your height? What is your height in both centimetres, meters and millimetres? Division Complete the following division problems in your homework book. You need to do these questions by hand (no calculator) and I want to see your working out. 672÷2= 246÷6= 872÷3= 163÷7= 124÷4= 139÷6= 265÷4= 164÷9= Go Beyond: Are you able to convert remainders into decimal numbers? Mean, Median, Mode Time yourself doing a physical activity of your choice for 1 minute. Some ideas of activities are star jumps, burpees, sit ups or push ups. Do the same activity on 5 different days and record this data in your homework book. After completing your fifth attempt use your data to find your mean, median and mode. Remember The mode is the number that appears most often in a set of numbers. The median is the middle score (or scores) when a set of scores are written in order of size. The mean is another name for average. Personal Learning Choose 2 activities that will support you with your learning, your goal or that will challenge you! Mini Fete Reflection Using a procedure of your choice write a reflection on our mini fete? How did you feel? What feedback do you have to improve this for next year? What was your favourite stall and why? What did you think of our grades stall? Remember ‘Procedure Place’ is a great place to work out which procedure to use! Father’s Day Invite On Friday 31 st of August we are having our Father’s Day afternoon from 2.15pm to 3.15pm. As a class we will be discussing ideas of what we can do with our dad, brothers, uncle or mother’s who are able to come along. To give your special someone a ‘heads up’ write them a save the date note, card or . Don’t forget to tell them how much you would like to come along so you can spend the afternoon with them! Good Learners We know that good learners understand their strengths and weaknesses. Thinking about your own personal weaknesses create a homework activity of your own choice which will help you practise or get better at this. Some ideas could be to write a story making sure you use lots of interesting vocabulary, complete some maths problems using a process you find tricky, read a story and tell a family member what it was about, invite a friend over to play or practise spelling tricky words. Be creative! This is a chance for you to be intrinsically motivated! ‘GO BEYOND’ ACTIVITIES ‘Go Beyond’ Activities Extend your skills further and gain bonus points! Premier’s Reading Challenge The reading challenge finishes at the end of August. To complete the challenge you need to read 10 challenge books and 5 choice books. Wouldn’t it be great if our whole grade could finish the challenge! Don’t forget to register your books on the website. A link can be found on our blog. Your user details are : bfps (then your computer log on code) Password: fields1 Grade 6A Homework A parent needs to sign the boxes to say they have seen you complete the task.
