Ancient Rome The Etruscans

QUESTION What do you think of when you think of Ancient Rome?

The Etruscans This is an entirely different people group than the Romans. They have different origins than the Romans and a different story. They inhabited the area around modern day Tuscany. There language has not been linguistically understood by scholars leaving a bit of confusion about their history.

Etruscan Tombs Tumulus (singular) and Tumuli (plural). Developed to form a necropolis. Cut into a softer limestone known as “Tufa” and have a dome to them. What is important to understand? They are similar to the decoration of an Etruscan home. The dead will mimic the living. Frescoes are common within these tombs and depict large hands and movement in these hands. Tumuli in the Banditaccia necropolis (Cerveteri, Italy)
