AZ Wing CAP Mission Aircrew Airborne Photographer Revision Jan 2015

Introduction The Airborne Photographer (AP) serves as a member of a CAP flight crew and is tasked with taking airborne photographs and/or video of specified ground targets that completely meet or exceed the customer’s objectives and needs Class Content: Airborne Photography techniques New CAP & AZWG standards and applications for photo processing and uploads Some content not yet disseminated to the AZWG

Crew Positions The Airborne Photographer (AP – normally MS) is tasked with taking airborne photographs and/or video of specified ground targets per the customers requested, and providing that output, formatted for delivery to the customer The Mission Pilot (MP) plans and flies aerial imaging sorties and therefore needs to review this text and practice the planning, the various imaging flight patterns, and how to effectively communications with the AP The Third Crewmember (e.g. MO), in addition to regular crew duties, acts as a Photography Log keeper and assists the AP in other imaging-related tasks. Successful completion of the mission is highly dependent upon this position

AZ Wing AP Expectations (1) Capturing and delivering high quality airborne imagery is a leading priority for CAP National HQ and the AZ Wing The AP is a resource for the AZ Wing Be prepared to operate with remote squadrons as needed in the performance of special imagery missions or training activities Obtain the necessary photography and computer application skills: Google Earth ViewNX2 CAPUploader

AZ Wing AP Expectations (2) The AP is a team leader in imagery missions The proficient AP will be the lead in determining imagery mission requirements, briefings, execution, debriefings and a quality product delivery to the customer per their requirements AP & MP training and cooperation is critical It is the responsibility of the AP to maintain the required AP skill levels & proficiency Incorporate AP practices in training missions where appropriate

Special Notes This course will use the Nikon D-90 for camera operation examples Other Nikon Cameras in AZ Wing: D-200 (external GPS) D-7100 (very similar to D90) Use of member owned cameras is not permitted to capture photos for delivery to the customer

Ownership of Photos If you are taking photos on a training mission (i.e., not for delivery to a specific customer): The photos or video are the property of CAP: If you want to post them or use them outside the training mission, please contact your IC and get approval for the specific use of the images If you are taking mission images for a customer (including CAP): The photos or video are the property of the customer They may not be used for ANY reason (including training) without the expressed written consent of the customer Contact your IC to get the permission for the specific use Don’t be surprised that the customer may not want you to use the photos or video for other purposes
