 Animal cruelty can take on many forms, each of them equally worse as the other. It can be best defined as the infliction of pain and suffering to animals for other than self-defence. This can come in many forms like animal testing, animal skinning, animal abuse and many more. During these times, animals receive suffering through both mentally and physically at the same time. In this PowerPoint presentation, I will attempt to uncover the truth about what the world is doing to hurt the animals that had been living alongside us for billions of years.  Animal Abuse is the most common form of animal cruelty around the world. It can range from neglecting the animals to killing them by starvation or thirst. Many animals can also be sexually abused, people take them in as pets and abuse them for their own amusement. People who abuse animals usually present themselves as animal lovers, making it difficult for people to believe that they would do such a thing to the animals that they love.  A study in 1997 discovered that 40% of animal abusers had committed acts of violence against people. In another study, a history of abusing animals was found in 46% of those found guilty of sexual homicide.  27% of all animal cruelty cases that are categorized as "neglect."  A study in 2005 then proved that 75% of all violent offenders had early records of animal cruelty.

Other Forms of Animal Abuse Puppy mills can be found all over the world. They are a form of breeding puppies but in a more larger scale to sell them for profit or for feed to other animals. They are usually kept in cages where there is hardly no space at all. This leads to lots of sickness, thus leads to the death of many newborn puppies. It is said that it is a custom in Southeast Asia is to eat monkey brain. They believe that eating the monkey’s brain can cure many diseases as you grow older. This therefore leads to the over hunting of our tree climbing friends. In Indonesia for instance, there had been many reports of the overhunting of monkeys due to their high demand in markets. They are then sold to inns where they are cooked for whoever is brave enough to eat them for a very reasonable price.

 Animal Abuse can be found in many places, even in places where you least expected it like in our everyday entertainment. The most common entertainment where animal abuse can be found is in the circus.  Since 1990, elephants that had been used for circuses have already killed 43 people. This proves to us that due to the cruelty of the training techniques being thought to them, it causes them to attack humans even though they are naturally peaceful when they are in the wild.  More than bulls are killed every year in bloody bullfights around the world. For entertainment, the bulls are stabbed in their backs and are tortured for an hour before dying from the loss of blood or from exhaustion from being tortured.

Killer whales and dolphins that are found in marine parks can also be abused. It is said that these mammals only live about 25% of their life expectancy when captive. They suffer from many stress-induced diseases and ailments due to their rigorous training to do tricks Up to 50,000 greyhounds are killed or sent for experimentation every year once they are no longer profitable for the dog racing industry. Animal Testing Animal Testing happens all across the world. Since animals have the same parts that make up the human body, many companies decide to test their products on animals that can be bred in mass numbers. One example is the testing of various cosmetic products on rabbits. Many companies buy these rabbits from farmers who breed them in mass numbers. They then lock them up in cages until the company’s products are ready to be tested in order to ensure the safety and satisfaction of their customers. Sadly, before the products are considered safe for human use, they are usually very highly concentrated and when applied to any animal’s skin, results to many horrible outcomes like death or the lost of an eye. Over 70 Million animals each year are tortured or killed in many laboratories in the US The Draize test is a technique that many of the companies in the United States practice. Even though it does not really guarantee human safety, it protects the companies from lawsuits from angry customers. This requires various test products to be forced into the eyes of many Rabbits usually causing them to go blind. At least 5 billion of the Us tax dollars are poured into animal experiments every year

 Since the 1500s due to the Fur Trade, animal skinning had already been very popular around the world and especially in parts of Europe, where beaver pelts were made into hats and etc. Until today, the fur trade is still going strong. Some people make a living just by hunting and trapping fur- bearing animals and selling their fur to many clothing companies where the fur will be made into jackets or clothing that the people can wear during their everyday lives. Even though making fur clothes benefit many people, many hunters are usually overhunting for the pursuit of more profit. Some hunters also skin their captured animals even though the animals aren’t fully dead yet, thus leads to the painful suffering and the agonizing death of the animal.  Each year, over 3.5 million fur-bearing animals are trapped and skinned by hunters in the US in order to make clothing that an everyday human being can wear.  Despite the fur industry’s attempts to lessen the roles of trapped animals in cloth production, it is still estimated that more than half of all fur products sold around the world still come from trapped animals.

Organizations That Help Stop Animal Cruelty Around The World  PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) – is the largest animal rights organization in the world. Their work mostly focuses on factory farms, in laboratories, the clothing trade, and in the entertainment industry.  HSUS (The Humane Society of the United States) - is the United States’ largest and most effective animal protection organization. Their mission is to simply make a humane and sustainable world for all animals to live in.  SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) – has many branches across the world, especially in Canada, but the most well- known branch is stationed in Vancouver, British Columbia. Their mission is to simply advance the safety and well-being of animals around the world.  WSPA (World Society for the Protection of Animals) - has been promoting animal welfare for more than 25 years. Their work is concentrated in regions of the world where few policies exist to protect animals. Their only goal is to make a world where animal welfare matters, and animal cruelty ends.
