First 5 Lake 15 Years of Service to Community

First 5 Lake: Timeline 1998: Proposition 10 was passed by California Voters providing tobacco sales tax revenue, distributed to counties based on birth rate, to support programs & services focused on the needs of children prenatal-5 years old and their families : Lake County Children & Families Commission established via Ordinance 2452, as amended. Now known as First 5 Lake Commission. Completed First 5 Lake Strategic Plan. Conducted first competitive proposal process for allocation of funding : On average, over $750,000 per year of funding was provided through First 5 Lake to fund programs and services related to child development, health and family functioning.

First 5 Lake: Vision & Mission Statement Vision Statement All Lake County children will grow up in safe, supportive and healthy environments, and enter school healthy and ready to learn. Mission Statement First 5 Lake will inspire and promote healthy early childhood development through partnerships in our community with families and service providers.

Circles of Impact from First 5 Lake Children prenatal-5 years old, their Parents, and other family members On average, 6,300 children, parents, and other family members per year received services through a First 5 Lake funded program or service in the last fifteen years.

Circles of Impact from First 5 Lake Children prenatal-5 years, their Parents, and other family members Service Providers & Funded Agencies Each year, 8-10 programs run by local non-profit organizations and public agencies, along with almost 400 Child Care and Family Service Providers, received support, training, and/or resources over the last 15 years.

Economic Impact and Community Investment : Over 15 years, a total of $11.2MM has been invested in Lake County through First 5 Children prenatal-5 years, their Parents, and other family members Service Providers & Funded Agencies Economic Impact and Community Investment: Over 15 years, a total of $11.2MM has been invested in Lake County through First 5. Circles of Impact from First 5 Lake More children have received developmental screening and referrals early in life to ensure that they enter kindergarten ready to learn. More children have received an oral health screening to ensure that they are free of dental caries and pain in support of good overall health, nutrition and school readiness. More children are able to grow up in safer, more supportive, and healthier environments through parent/caregiver outreach, education and support. More families with children prenatal-5 years old have access to an integrated, collaborative and coordinated system of services.

For Next Fifteen Years Thank you to all community members and colleagues that have worked with First 5 Lake to improve the lives of children and their families over past 15 years. We will continue our efforts in Lake County to build a “comprehensive, collaborative and integrated system of care” for children prenatal – 5 years old and their families as envisioned by Proposition 10.
