Uhh wait, before you begin, whose this chick? She’s the author, Marie Lu. Marie Lu was born in 1984, in Beijing, China. So far she has completed the Legend Trilogy, and is in the process of writing a new book. However, this story is not a part of the Trilogy. Legend is included in the dystopian genre. Books similar to this would be Divergent, The Hunger Games, and The Selection. All three books, including Legend, are Trilogies…RULE OF THREE! Cool! Feel free to continue!

Agent Thomas! You better find Agent Iparis and that criminal Day! Here is the file Yes Commander Jameson!

Suspects (Characters) Scene of Crime (Setting) Summary of Events (Plot Synopsis) Words Before Disappearance (Theme/Lit. Devices)

June Iparis is a fifteen year old prodigy who works for the Republic. She is the youngest agent to work at the Republic because of her perfect score on the Trial, which is a test 10 year olds take to determine their future. Her parents died in a “car accident” and her brother was “accidentally killed” while hunting down Day Wing. However, things are not always what they seem, and later on in the novel, June learns the truth about the death of her ex Republic working family. (ex is a big clue here.) Daniel Atlan Wing, or Day, is a fifteen year old prodigy, just like June. However, the Republic sent him to the kill room because they only wanted one prodigy. After escaping the kill room, Day becomes a criminal, and befriends a young girl named Tess, who becomes a side kick to Day in the novel. Sadly, Day’s family believes he’s dead. He realized he had to change his name to Day after escaping and becoming a criminal. As you progress farther into the story, Day seems softer, and you realize his true motives behind becoming a so called “criminal”. Protagonists The Republic in general is a problem for these youngsters. Throughout the story, they face challenges with this group of people. June had worked for the Republic, but later decided to quit after finding out secrets she wasn’t supposed to know. She discovered these secrets through something her deceased brother left behind. However, she knew what would happen if she resigned. The Republic would do whatever it would take, including murder, to make sure June, or even Day, couldn’t say a word. The main antagonists in the Republic would be Commander Jameson: a harsh, female leader who is in charge of June while she is working at the Batalla Hall; and Thomas, a soldier who worked along side of June’s brother, Metias, who dies in the story. Antagonists

Setting This wonderful novel takes place far in the future in what once was the United States of America. As you can see, many of our southern states are gone, and America is split into The Republic of America and The Colonies of America, who are currently in a civil war. Legend takes place in The Republic of America. Most of the story revolves around Los Angeles, which is in the Ruby Sector, and the Lake Sector, where Day grew up. Sectors are like counties. So Bergen County, where we live, would be the Bergen Sector.

Plot Synopsis Day Wing and June Iparis are both prodigies. Day is a wanted criminal, and June is a successful Republic agent. When June’s brother dies, Day is immediately assumed to be the killer. However, after getting to know Day, she feels bad about her true intentions. Day’s brother is dying of an infection that is rapidly spreading throughout the country, and his older brother and mother are in need of food and supplies. Despite her feelings, June captures Day, only to later learn the truth by both something her dead brother left behind, and Day himself.

Theme and Literary Devices Theme: Not everything is what it seems to be. In this story, nothing is as it seems. Twists and turns, plot twists and more. You could never predict an event. Literary Devices: Similes: “Kaede strikes like a bull.” (169) “She strikes like a viper.” (169) “I glance up at Commander Jameson, who stares at me as if she’s reading my thoughts.” (111) Metaphors: “But her eyes burn in the light…”(169)

Commander Jameson, I think I know where they are… Where?

Read The Legend Trilogy, by Marie Lu, to find out!
