Comparing Defy with Amistar in Angled Cap Autumn Pre-Em’s Flowering OSR Wheat - T0 through to T3 Unfortunately no trials taken to yield so all visual. Both 03 size nozzles Defy in standard straight nozzle holder Amistar in BFS angled cap, with ‘Amistar Angle down’ to give approx 18deg? angle Angled Amistar Defy

Wheat Trial 2 tramlines per nozzle (both directions) One tramline between each trail area Same nozzle, water rate and direction of travel for T0, T1, T2 & T3 Observations No visible differences between either nozzle in terms of disease or weed control – both gave good control Angled Amistar appeared to be more boom height sensitive – higher the boom the more the spray angle produced by the nozzle reduced back to straight down

OSR Trial 2 tramlines per nozzle (both directions) One tramline between each trail area Same nozzle & water rate Water Sensitive Paper (WSP) used to see how spray distributes through the crop

Top of CanopyHalfway-Up Plant Bottom Leaves

Amistar Defy Amistar Defy

Observations. Angle of spray from Amistar in angled cap is lost quicker than with Defy – less energy from 110deg Usual Air Induction vs non air induction results – larger droplets, run off on WSP, fewer droplets reaching bottom of canopy etc With both nozzles most spray is kept up in the top of the canopy of flowering OSR Defy gave good coverage in the top of the canopy, and visibly better lower down than Amistar when using WSP in flowering OSR No visible difference in crop at desiccation stage – presume both nozzles gave equal control, or low risk Sclerotinia year

Pre-em Trail 2 tramlines per nozzle (both directions) One tramline between each trail area Same nozzle & water rate Observations No Visible differences between plots at this stage – crop only just emerging Same issues with angled Amistar loosing the spray angle, so recommend returning Amistar to straight cap

(Early) Pre-Em Outcomes Use Defy nozzle when angle nozzle is required Take Amistar out of angled cap Continue to use Amistar for sensitive areas, alternating forwards/backwards on separate sprayline for quick changeover F/B Amistar F/B Defy
