Welcome to the Launch of the IODP - CAPES/Brazil CAPES-MEC, Brasília, DF., Brazil

Brazil will join the IODP as a full member and have effective participation in the program to train people and propose drill sites. CAPES will host the Brazilian office of the Program. The Executive Secretariat of the Program will be formed by Emidio Cantídio (CAPES), Manoel Cardoso (CAPES), Luiz Drude de Lacerda (UFC), Adalto Bianchini (FURG) and Sidney L. M. Mello (UFF). The Executive Committee shall be the sole interlocutor of the IODP- BRASIL-CAPES/MEC with the international community within the IODP as well as the Brazilian scientific community.

MAIN TASKS OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE Publicize the IODP-BRASIL-CAPES/MEC within the Brazilian scientific community. Establish specific goals of the IODP-BRASIL-CAPES/MEC. Manage the "Member Program Office - BRAZIL". Establish a national strategy of the program, considering contributions of the scientific community. Create a National Scientific Committee.

MAIN TASKS OF THE SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE Indicate the Brazilian representatives on boards and committees of the SAS (Science Technology Panel, Environmental Protection and Safety Panel, Site Characterization Panel) of the IODP. Encourage doctoral, post-doctoral and exchange of researchers in the IODP through the program "Science without Borders”. Raise the possibilities of participating institutions of the IODP to receive graduate students.
