Learning Targets  Define the 4 types of parenting styles  Analyze parenting styles for further depth of understanding  Create informative posters on parenting styles

Authoritarian (Think vegetarian strict diet/ strict parent!) Parent’s Motto: “Because I said so.” The parent it the boss Children have harsh punishments for even the small things – Don’t explain, just punish “Tough Love” Children who have been raised with authoritarian parents learn to: – Be submissive – Resent or fear parents – Lower self-esteem

Authoritative Parent’s Motto: “The world is constantly changing and one day I won’t be there to tell you what to do– so you need to figure it out for yourself.” ALL ABOUT BALANCE! Authoritative parenting results in the most emotionally stable Children. Children who have been raised with authoritative parents learn to: – Think for themselves – Learn to make the best decisions based on morality and sound judgment. – Work through problems

Uninvolved Parent’s Motto: “…” Completely unresponsive to child and needs Usually this results from outside problems such as: alcohol abuse, death in family, depressions, etc. “Lack of Interest” Children who have been raised with uninvolved parents learn to: – Grow up too fast – Desperate for attention and affection – Easily manipulated by others – Struggles behaviorally and emotionally

Permissive Parent’s Motto: “Treat your children as your friends.” Parents do not care what children do as long as the kids are happy. Parents may have rules, but they are constantly bent to please the child. “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” Children who have been raised with uninvolved parents learn to: – Be spoiled – No respect for authority – Sense of entitlement – Blurred sense of right vs. wrong

Informative Posters In your group, you will create an informative poster on one of the types of parenting styles. Include:  What style are you informing about  Define it  Specific examples of what it looks like  Opinions on the type of parenting style  A slogan or catch phrase about the style  Color and/or pictures!
