if an unpleasant event pushes someone over the edge, it makes them start to behave in a crazy way. Sample: She had been driven over the edge by the separation from her husband.

It means to go to the limits, to do something to the maximum possible. This term originated in the airplane industry. Planes performances used to be marked on a 2 dimensional graph. The area of the graph that indicated safe usage was the envelope. This all started in the late 1970's.

Simile is when you compare two nouns ( persons, places or things ) that are unlike, with “like’ or ‘as.’ The rain falls like the sun, rising upon the mountains. Metaphor is when you use two nouns and compare or contrast them to one another. Unlike simile, you don't use "like" or "as" in the comparison. Her eyes are homes of silent prayer

Space is emptiness from inside. (Lee Martin) Death is a dry leaf crumbling in your hand. (James Smith) Ignorance is a closed door. (Christina Todd) Life is a mountainous train track. (Karen Jones) A pet is a brother you never had. (Scott McGuire) A seed is an unborn baby. (John Benton)

Love is blind, as far as the eye can see. Your beauty shines like the sun. My love's like a red, red rose. Their smiles, wan as primroses. Writing is like water, because you have to let it flow. Death lies upon her like an untimely frost. (Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet.)

My heart is like a singing bird Whose nest is in a watered shoot; My heart is like an apple tree Whose boughs are bent with thickest fruit; My heart is like a rainbow shell That paddles in a halcyon sea; My heart is gladder than all these Because my love is come to me. Raise me a dais of silk and down; Hang it with vair and purple dyes; Carve it in doves and pomegranates And peacocks with a hundred eyes; Work it in gold and silver grapes, In leaves and silver fleur-de-lys; Because the birthday of my life Is come, my love is come to me. Christina G. Rossetti
