CO2 Race Cars

What is a CO2 Race Car? A CO2 race car is a model car POWERED by the release of CO2 gas from a compressed cartridge. The release of the gas PROPELS the car forward at a high rate of speed.

What is the Project? Each Student will DESIGN, BUILD and RACE their own CO2 race car. Races will be conducted in June, out in the Garden Level hallway. Race times (How much time it takes your car to travel 60 ft.) will be kept. Who will have the fastest car in 8 th Grade?

Before we begin... What will help to make your car go faster ?

Aerodynamics The dynamics of atmospheric interactions with moving objects.

4 Forces of Aerodynamics: 1. Drag 2. Draft 3. Downward Force 4. Lift

Coping Saw Cutting Steps Make sure the work piece is fastened securely in the vice. Begin to cut by dragging the blade backwards on the wood three times. Place two hands on the handle and begin to cut, ensuring that the blade is on the waste side of the line. Rotate your hands slowly to change the direction of the blade as the direction of the cut changes. Slow the cutting speed down as you come to the edge of the piece and continue slowly until the blade passes out of the wood. Reposition the block and continue in the same way. NB. This saw is always used with 2 hands on the handle. Be careful when turning the blade. If you turn it too sharply it will snap.
