Suffixes –ous, and -ward Yary Tatiana Morales Carranza Author: Yary Tatiana Morales Carranza

A Suffix is a word part that comes after a base word or root that changes its meaning

The suffix -ous means “full of” Examples: glorious full of glory spacious full of space nervous full of nerves

Circle the suffix, and underline the base word. Example: Circle the suffix, and underline the base word. Doug feared that turning sideways might be more dangerous than walking straight. The suffix –ous means “full of” Therefore, dangerous means “full of danger”

The suffix –ward means “ in a certain direction” down is the base word Example: There was nothing separating him from the edge of the cliff and a plunge downward. Ward is the suffix, and it means “in a certain direction” Therefore downward means “moving down” Salir
