Deputy Prime Minster and Treasurer Wayne Swan. Wayne Maxwell Swan (born 30 June 1954) is a politician who has been the Deputy Prime Minister of Australia and the Deputy Leader of the Labor Party since 24 June 2010, and the Treasurer of Australia since 3 December Swan was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1993 for Lilley in Queensland, although he lost this job/seat in He regained the job/seat in 1998 and has represented it ever since. Following Labor's victory in 2007, Swan was appointed Treasurer of Australia by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd. On 24 June 2010, Swan was elected to become Deputy Leader of the Labor Party, and was sworn in as the 14th Deputy Prime Minister of Australia.

He has been a Labor member of the Australian House of Representatives since October 1998, representing the Division of Oxley, Queensland. The seat of Oxley, otherwise a safe Labor seat, was previously held by Pauline Hanson, who formed the One nation party after winning the seat in 1996 as an independent.
