Objective: To write a persuasive essay explaining how three characters in They Cage the Animals at Night, influence Jennings more than any other character in the book. You will choose three characters and for each character you will find two examples from the book that show how these characters influence Jennings.

Stevie influences Jennings in two ways: Stevie influences Jennings by running away. He shows Jennings that when you face something terrible (Stevie’s drunk father who abuses him) that it is okay to run away from it. Stevie influences Jennings by showing him that kids in orphanages shouldn’t make close friends because it hurts too much when they leave.

Writing a Hook A Hook is something that gets your reader interested in your essay. It should give the reader an idea of what your essay is about. It can be a question or a quote.

Starting your essay off with a question. When you start your essay off with a question, it should not be a detailed question but it should interesting and give your reader an idea of what you will be talking about in your essay.

Starting your essay off with a quote. When you start your essay off with a quote, it should be a quote taken directly out of the book that you are writing about. Your quote should be interesting. It also needs to have something to do with how one of your characters influences Jennings.
