OUR SUBJECT TONIGHT OUR SUBJECT TONIGHT : DOES THE BIBLE TEACH THAT IT IS POSSIBLE FOR ONE WHO HAS TRULY BEEN SAVED TO EVER BE LOST UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES? INVESTIGATE THE TRUTH OF ONCE SAVED - ALWAYS SAVED?

“YES,” THIS LESSON SAYS “YES,” ONE MAY LOSE THEIR SALVATION AFTER HAVING RECEIVED IT. SOME THOUGHTS FROM HEBREWS 6: THE SCRIPTURES CLEARLY TEACH THAT GOD IS WILLING AND ABLE TO KEEP HIS PROMISES - HE IS FAITHFUL. HEBREWS 6:13-20 THE SCRIPTURES ALSO TEACH THAT WE MUST BE FAITHFUL IN ORDER TO RECEIVE GOD'S PROMISES. HEBREWS 6:9-12 THE SCRIPTURES ALSO TEACH THAT ONE MAY RECEIVE THE PROMISE OF ETERNAL LIFE AND THEN FORFEIT LIFE THROUGH UNFAITHFULNESS. HEBREWS 6:4-8

OTHER SCRIPTURES TEACHING THE POSSIBILITY OF BEING SAVED THEN LOST: WHEN VIEWING SUCH PASSAGES AS THESE, SOME WILL SAY THAT EITHER THOSE INVOLVED WERE NEVER TRULY SAVED OR THEY ARE TRULY LOST AS A RESULT OF THEIR UNFAITHFULNESS.

WHAT ABOUT THOSE WARNED IN THESE SCRIPTURES? HEBREWS 10:26-39 II PETER 2:20-22 (WITH II PETER 1:1- 4) GALATIANS 5:4

OTHER SCRIPTURES SHOWING THE NECESSITY OF CONTINUED FAITHFULNESS: REVELATION 2:10 (WITH II TIMOTHY 4:6-8) I JOHN 1:5-2:2 I PETER 1:3-9 II PETER 1:5-11

IS "ONCE-SAVED-ALWAYS-SAVED" IN THE FOLLOWING SCRIPTURES? JOHN 10: SHOWS GOD'S PROTECTION FOR THOSE WHO WILL HEAR AND FOLLOW –NO MENTION OF HOPE FOR THOSE WHO TURN AWAY FROM GOD ROMANS 8:31-39 – A PROMISE FOR THOSE WHO: –ARE “IN CHRIST JESUS” (VERSE 1) –WALK AFTER THE SPIRIT (VERSE 4-11) –WHO LOVE GOD (VERSE 28) NO HOPE OFFERED HERE FOR THOSE WHO TURN AWAY FROM GOD –REVELATION 3:5 - PROMISE TO ONE “THAT OVERCOMETH"

IS "ONCE-SAVED-ALWAYS-SAVED" IN THE FOLLOWING SCRIPTURES? THE CASE OF SIMON THE SORCEROR – ACTS 8:5-25 –WAS HE EVER TRULY SAVED? (VERSES 12-13) WAS HE IN REAL DANGER OF LOSING HIS SOUL? (VERSES 20-24)

CONCLUSION: THE WORD OF GOD IS FILLED WITH ASSURANCE TO THOSE WHO WILL COME TO GOD IN OBEDIENT FAITH AND WHO WILL CONTINUE IN FAITHFULNESS TO GOD. THOSE WHO WILL NOT COME AND THOSE WHO TURN AWAY FROM GOD HAVE NO REASON FOR HOPE IN CHRIST!
