Mercer Island Youth Soccer/ Football Club Where Does MIYSC Sit? MIYSC offers Recreational soccer programs for all age groups as part of Eastside Youth Soccer (EYSA) and Washington Youth Soccer District 2 MIYSC has competitive developmental teams starting at U-11, typically called “Select” teams MIYSC select teams play as “MIFC” and are more competitive than Recreational teams but generally less competitive than Regional Club League (“RCL”) teams Eastside FC is our sister RCL club whose teams are typically called “Premier” teams The diagram on the right is the development pathway for players in Washington Youth Soccer

MIYSC/MIFC Facts Incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1996, but has been offering soccer opportunities for Mercer Island youth for over 50 years In 2012, more then 1000 boys and girls on 75+ MIYSC teams across U8-18 Recreational and Select soccer leagues Jordan Morris, MIYSC alum and current EFC player – Gatorade Washington Boys Soccer Player of the Year 2012; MIHS boys team was 3A State Runner-Up in 2012 MIYSC alumni and current EFC players Corey Goelz and Marissa Hammerstrom received WSSCA All-State Soccer recognitions BU15 MIFC United were Washington State Challenge Cup Champions in 2012; represented Washington in West Regionals in Colorado last June GU14 MIFC Force competed in the Gothia Cup, an international tournament in Sweden, in the summer of 2012 Aaron Byers, MIYSC VP of Player & Coach Development, was invited to FC Barcelona 2012 Soccer Camp in Florida as an assistant coach where he received his FCB Escola Coaching Certificate MIYSC partners with the soccer professionals at the International Academy of Soccer (IAS) for our player development programs

What do we believe in? Fair and safe competition for all players – registered with the state, playing in the correct age group, and covered by insurance All adults interacting with kids have had a background check done by Washington State Patrol – coaches, trainers, team managers All our Select Coaches and Professional Soccer Trainers have verified USYS/WYS coaching licenses High quality, professional training sessions throughout our programs from U8-18 All Recreational Coaches are encouraged to attend USYS/WYS licensing training sessions and earn their coaching certifications Emphasis on player skill development over game results in U8-11 We are a volunteer board – there are no paid board members or owners in our organization Transparency throughout our programs – all documents describing our policies are public, Select team tryout process is documented, budgets are public, etc.

Mercer Island Youth Soccer Club Player Development Curriculum Dutch/Barcelona Style Player Skill Development – Age appropriate developmental focus U6-U10 – Heavy emphasis on ball skills - Dribbling, Passing, Ball Control and Positioning – Very little focus on Defending and Striking at the young ages – Roster sizes follow USYS guidelines to maximize player touches with the ball in practice and games Focus is on player development AND team development Implementation – Led by IAS Professional Trainers During Clinics
