Introduction A FOOT IN BOTH PLACES is an interactive educational toolkit produced by the American Friends Service Committee. This resource explores how Arab, South Asian, and Muslim communities have responded to being targeted as "enemies" in the US government's "war on terror.“ This "Help" presentation offers a quick tour of what's included in this toolkit and the different ways you can access it. (Click anywhere on this page to advance to the next screen.)

Main Interface The heart of this resource is a collection of 25 interviews with community activists in Los Angeles, Chicago, and the New York City area.

Section Select Click on any section to see what “chapters” it includes.

Chapter Select Each of the folders contains different “chapters.” Click on the folder to enter the chapter.

Item Select Click on one of the photos to select an item.

Item Select Inside each chapter, when you click on one of the photos you will have three options: 1)An audio excerpt from that person’s interview will play automatically. You can click on the button to replay the audio. 2)You can also click on the button to see that person’s comments on the theme of the chapter you are currently exploring. 3)If you prefer, you can leave the “chapter view” and go to that person’s complete interview. Click on the photo again or use the “close” button to choose another photo in the current chapter.

Complete Interview If you select the complete interview, this is what you will see.

Alternative Views You can also reach any the parts of this toolkit from the main screen. Click on any item to see what it includes. To return to the main screen, click “home” from anywhere inside the resource.
