People say every nation has its own traditional dishes We decide to find out how much Australian food differs from European cuisine

First we found information about: Australian food traditionsAustralian food traditions Unique & Iconic Australian foodUnique & Iconic Australian food Typical Breakfast, Dinner and DessertsTypical Breakfast, Dinner and Desserts Restaurants & Take-away foodRestaurants & Take-away food Seafood & BarbecuesSeafood & Barbecues Then we made a conclusion

Australian food traditions have been influenced by those who have settled in Australia.Australian cuisine was based on traditional British food and was brought to the country by the first modern settlers: rum, tea, pies, steaks, chops, duck, kangaroo, emu, used with vegetables. Food was then influenced by a hybrid of Mediterranean and Asian foods, introduced by more immigrants who arrived during the 19 th and 20 th century.

Breakfast The typical breakfast of Australians strongly resembles breakfast in many Western countries. Owing to the warm weather in some parts of Australia, Breakfast is light. It is consists of cereals, toasts with a spread and fruit. In colder regions porridge or meals similar to the full English breakfast may be consumed. A heavier breakfast frequently include fried bacon, egg, mushrooms, baked beans, sausages, tomatoes, toast with spread. Drinks taken at breakfast include tea, coffee, flavoured milk or juice. A popular breakfast food is Vegemite, a black salty spread similar to Marmite, applied to toast or bread.

Dinner The evening meal is the main meal of the day for most Australians. At home they eat dishes according to the tastes and background of the family. Usually it is roast meat and vegetables, pasta, pizza, casseroles, barbecue meat, vegetables and salad soup, stir-fries.

Unique and Iconic Australian foods A plate of fairy bread at a children’s party. One food regularly associated with Australia is Vegemite. Other national foods are Milo, Macadamia nuts, Chiko Roll- a deep-fried savoury roll akin to a spring roll, Violet Crumble-a honeycomb chocolate bar, Cherry Ripe, Jaffas-an orange flavoured candy-coated chocolate, Tim Tams-a chocolate biscuit, the breakfast cereal Weet-Bix. Australia is a multicultural country and there are various cafes, restaurants and pubs everywhere such as Chinese, Spanish, Thai, Greek Indian and typical Aussie-style houses. Sushi bars are common-place there. The seafood restaurants are great too. The quality of the food is superb with its fresh prawns, lobster, trout and barramundi. At restaurants you may see a sign saying «BYO». This is short for «Bring your Own», it is telling you to get your wine or beer before going out to eat. If you want you can even cook your own food in some pubs. There are also lots of outdoor barbies in parks and at the beaches where people like to cook there own lunch or dinner. Restaurants

Australia’s wide variety of seafood is also popular and barbecues are common at weekend family gatherings. Barbecues are also common in fund raising for schools and local communities where sausages and onion are served on white bread with tomato sauce. Take-away food Similar to any other Western nation, in Australia there is a wide range of takeaway food available from other cultures. The meat pie and sausage rolls are examples of traditional takeaway foods. Small hand sized meat pies generally made with meat and gravy are well- known a takeaway snack. In South Australia they are served upside down on a bed of pea soup with tomato sauce and called a Pie floater. In many takeaway shops you can buy «Australian Hamburger»- lettuce, tomato, cheese, beetroot, grilled onion, a fried egg and pineapple. Mass-produced factories: Four-and-Twenty Maccas (McDonalds) Balfours Villis Big Ben Pizza Hut Hungry Jack’s

Australian wine Australia has some of the best wines on the market, and more and more wine bars are springing up to show that Australians have a diverse range of drinking habits. Now we know a lot about Modern Australian Cuisine, that have been heavily influenced by its Asian and South- East Asian neighbours, particularly Chinese, Japanese, Thai and by the many waves of immigrants from all parts of the world. Mediterranean influences from Greek, Lebanese, Moroccan and Italian cuisines are common since 1950s.Fresh produce readily available and used extensively. The trend urged by long-term government health initiatives is towards low- salt, low- fat healthy cookery incorporating lean meat, lightly cooked, colourful, steamed or stir-fried vegetables. Cuisine trends are frequently labeled food with the umbrella term «Modern Australian», that is differ from traditional European cuisine. But British traditions still persist to varying degrees including in the takeaway food sector, with pies and fish and chips remaining popular. Our conclusion
