SAMPLE GRID Proposal Title and Number; Affected Bylaw IntentStatement Rationale in Italics Things to Consider [Questions and Answers] Things to Consider [Questions and Answers]SOAComments SPOPL Number: 16 Effective Date: August 1, 2007 Title: ELIGIBILITY -- TRANSFER RESIDENCE REQUIREMENT -- CHAMPIONSHIP ELIGIBILITY Affected Bylaw: Intent: To specify that a student-athlete who is required to fulfill an academic year of residence is not eligible to participate in any NCAA championship during the vacation period immediately following the academic year of residence. Rationale: The intent of the transfer residence requirement is for a student-athlete to be withheld from all competition for one full academic year. It is not appropriate for a student-athlete to be eligible for NCAA championships that occur during the vacation period immediately following the conclusion of the transfer residence requirement, since that championship was tied to a season during which the individual was not eligible for other competition. THINGS TO CONSIDER: Q: Does this mean a basketball player who sits for one spring-one fall may not participate during Christmas break? A; No, proposal tied to NCAA championship. Basketball championships occur in spring term (not during vacation period).

VOTING – SAMPLE GRID SSupportOOpposeAAbstainComments 573 Oppose- Red-shirting gives an unfair “opportunity to compete” to red-shirted S-A Support- These games do not count towards championships so they are more like practice than competition.  The comments section (In a simple list like the example) is the most crucial portion of grid completion, because national SAAC determines its position from these comments. In a close vote, always write comments for both positions. It’s important to write the tally for each position, not just check one box.

Conduct and Expectations Alcohol may be available at some NCAA functions. Alcohol use for individuals under the age of 21 is illegal in all 50 states. All individuals can face serious legal consequences for underage drinking or for providing alcohol to minors. While attending meetings, members must be open- minded and respectful of other people’s opinions. The committee will handle any necessary disciplinary issues among its members.
