NCAA Division II and Gulf South Conference

Division II What is Division II?  Division II is an intermediate-level division of competition in the NCAA.  There are 302 active member institutions ranging in size from less the 2,500 to over 22,000.  Athletic scholarships may be offered, but in Division II very few student- athletes receive a full athletics grant that covers all of their expenses. Most rely on other forms of financial aid to cover their expenses such as academic scholarships, student loans and employment earnings.  Division II athletics programs produce excellent outcomes in academics when they are properly aligned with the educational mission of the institution.  Television exposure-D-II Semi-Finals in Football air on ESPN-2 or U or CBS College Sports; Basketball Quarter and Semi-Finals are aired on CBS College Sports.

Division II Benefits Academics first-Division II student-athletes consistently graduate 8 to 15 percentage points higher than the total student body. The best access ratio to national championships brackets. Regionalization philosophy for championships selection emphasizes local competition for regular season competition. The result is reduced travel expenses for regular season competition and limited missed class time for student-athletes. Emphasis on the development of student-athletes as leaders and Division II’s commitment to academic excellence. “We are preparing student-athletes to be professional in something other than sports.”
