Presentation transcript:

Week of: March 9 th – March 13 th News to Know LICE UPDATE: Thankfully, there has not been anymore reports of lice in our classroom this week. However, I will still continue with the precautions that I have in place. Hopefully the classroom will stay lice-free for the rest of the school year. Thanks again for you support and cooperation. SPIRIT WEEK: The week before spring break is spirit week. Each day the kids will have the opportunity to dress up in a fun and creative way. The specifics for the days will be announced next week. REPORT CARDS: Second trimester report cards go home next Friday. When they go home, please review everything with your child and let me know if you have any questions. SPRING BREAK: With the upcoming break right around the corner, I like to think about ways that the students can still engage academically during their time off. One of the best ways would be to keep them active on Lexia over break. If you need username/password information, please let me know. TEE-BALL, SOCCER, RECITALS, ETC…: I know the spring is a busy time for all sorts of activities outside of school and I LOVE showing the kids that I am interested in what they do. If your child is involved with any shows, leagues, competitions or recitals, please let me know and I will do my best to attend! Rowdy Readers This week in our reading lessons we were very busy with a new “Amazing Creature” unit and we continued our Dr. Seuss author study. In our “Amazing Creatures” unit we focused on amazing insects. We read a number of nonfiction books in which we focused on identifying the main idea of each book. We also worked hard on identifying singular and plural nouns in our everyday lives. Some of the books that we read this week were: One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish The Cat in the Hat The Cat in the Hat Comes Back Beetles Insect Hide and Seek The Bees and the Elephants The Beetle Alphabet Book About Insect This week we also added the new sight words “he” and “she”. Our sight word list is now up to 25. We also added 5 new oral vocabulary words that we found in our stories this week. The new words were: annoy, distinctive, flutter, insect and interesting. Finally we have been working on “Magic c” lowercase letters, ask your child about these letter. Math Madness We were very busy this week in our math activities. We began the week with some games and puzzles in which the students had to use pattern blocks to fill larger shapes. We then ended the week with a few individual activities in which the students demonstrated what they know about adding, subtracting comparing numbers and decomposing numbers. Upcoming Dates Tuesday, March 17 th : St. Patrick’s Day Friday, March 20 th : Report cards go home Friday, March 20 th : Staff vs. Students Basketball game 3/23-3/27: SPIRIT WEEK! 3/30-4/3: SPRING BREAK!
