Garfield Graphics included with kind permission from PAWS Inc. All Rights Reserved. Getting Started It is a good idea to put everything you use in your PowerPoint in a folder. Before you start your PowerPoint document - plan your presentation in a word document. Type up the text you wish to put on the slides. Use the spell checker to eliminate errors. Collect any images you may wish to use in the presentation. Use a graphics package (such as MS-Paint or Fireworks) to resize and amend (perhaps label or re-colour) your pictures ready for insertion.

Garfield Graphics included with kind permission from PAWS Inc. All Rights Reserved. The Heading Menu The ‘File’ option deals with opening and saving presentations. Always save your presentations as ‘presentation’ so that you can amend them later and as ‘show’ to send to others. The ‘Edit’ option allows you to amend the slide you are working on – or even delete it.

Garfield Graphics included with kind permission from PAWS Inc. All Rights Reserved. The ‘View’ option lets you switch between your presentation and a ‘Master’ view. On the ‘Master’ you can amend the colour of the background and the font of the text of all of the slides

Garfield Graphics included with kind permission from PAWS Inc. All Rights Reserved. The ‘Insert’ option lets you insert a new slide or a duplicate of the one you are on. It also lets you insert text boxes, pictures, sounds and movies or make links to webpages (the ‘hyperlink’)

Garfield Graphics included with kind permission from PAWS Inc. All Rights Reserved. The ‘Format’ option lets you change the font etc. The ‘Tools’ option lets you check spelling and/or grammar. The ‘Slide Show’ option is the one to use if you want to test out your presentation or add animations – have text fly in or have the slides ‘checker out’ etc.

Garfield Graphics included with kind permission from PAWS Inc. All Rights Reserved. Your opening slide It tells you to ‘click to add title’ - and subtitle. To do that is easy – click on the prompt and it will disappear - then type in your title (or copy and paste it from your word document). You may wish to put your name and date as the subtitle – or leave that section blank.

Garfield Graphics included with kind permission from PAWS Inc. All Rights Reserved. Inserting a new slide Go to the options on the top line and select ‘insert’. Ask it to insert a new slide. You may now type (or copy and paste) text into the box. Give the page a title – perhaps a keyword from your text.

Garfield Graphics included with kind permission from PAWS Inc. All Rights Reserved. Inserting a picture You can resize it by clicking on it and taking your mouse cursor to the circles at the edges – an arrow appears You can do the same with the text box. The green circle allows you to rotate the picture – try it!

Overlapping pictures Each time you add a picture it will be put onto the screen so that it overlaps the pictures before. It’s ‘order’ is that it is on top of the others that went before. If you ‘right click’ on a picture you can change that ‘order’. The window on the right will open up and you can re-order the pictures.
