doc.: IEEE /0685r0 Submission May 2011 Ron Porat, Broadcom Outline S1G spectrum available in the US (26MHz) is much larger than other countries (and allows higher transmission power) We present our current understanding of available spectrum and channelization outside the US Slide 2

doc.: IEEE /0685r0 Submission Korea Frequency band: 917 ~ MHz (6.5 MHz) –RFID and USN(Ubiquitous Sensor Network) share the band Transmit signal center frequency May 2011 Ron Porat, Broadcom Slide 3 Channel number Center frequency (MHz) Channel number Center frequency (MHz) Channel number Center frequency (MHz) Channel number Center frequency (MHz)

doc.: IEEE /0685r0 Submission Cont. (1) Max EIRP ≤ 10 mW except Ch#1,3,4,6,7,9,10,12,13,15,16,18 –Max EIRP ≤ 3 mW for Ch#1,3,4,6,7,9,10,12,13,15,16,18 Channel bandwidth: no restriction –Occupied channel bandwidth within 917 ~ MHz High power RFID share the band –Ch#2,5,8,11,14,17: max EIRP ≤ 4W –Ch#20~32: max EIRP ≤ 200 mW May 2011 Ron Porat, Broadcom Slide Channel number: 3 mW 10 mW MHz923.4 MHz

doc.: IEEE /0685r0 Submission Cont. (2) Channel sharing –Frequency hopping (FH): Number of hopping channels ≥ 16 Dwell time in one channel ≤ 0.4 sec –Listen Before Transmission (LBT): Minimum sensing time ≥ 5 msec CCA threshold: -65 dBm Maximum transmission on-time ≤ 4 sec Minimum transmission off-time after transmission ≥ 50 msec –Techniques other than FH and LBT Duty cycle ≤ 2% for 20 sec period of time May 2011 Ron Porat, Broadcom Slide 5

doc.: IEEE /0685r0 Submission China Information from the Office of State Radio Regulatory Commission of the People’s Republic of China (SRRC) website [2] For 470~510 MHz and 779~787 MHz bands: –Wireless microphone and civilian radio and other types of equipment, measuring instruments Frequency : MHz, MHz –Transmission power limit: 50mW (erp) –Occupied bandwidth: less than 200kHz –Frequency tolerance: 100 × –All kinds of consumer devices in the wireless control device Not be used for wireless control toys, model. Frequency : MHz (8 MHz) –Transmission power limit: 10mW (erp) May 2011 Ron Porat, Broadcom Slide 6

doc.: IEEE /0685r0 Submission Japan Based on [3], the current band is MHz (1mW max power or 10mW from 954MHz) High power RFID (0.25W) share the band Channelization is based on 200KHz element channels. Up to 1MHz signal BW allowed (5 channels). This is a recent increase from a maximum of 3 channels. Mask for 1MHz channel operating at 10mW requires -39dBr 600KHz away from band edge (tighter than WiFi) Based on discussions with author of [3], by the end of the year the spectrum will move to roughly MHz while still maintaining 1MHz limit. May 2011 Ron Porat, Broadcom Slide 7

doc.: IEEE /0685r0 Submission Europe Transmission in MHz band is allowed with up to 14dBm with PSD limit. Unclear whether MHz needs to be avoided due to operation of alarms in this band. Ref [4] and [5] contradict each other. High power RFID (2W) share the band MHz (hence allowing much higher PSD) Duty cycle limitation of 2.8% for a given 200KHz (max 100sec transmission in 1 hour) PSD limit is enforced in 3 different ways [4]: Unclear whether larger than 0.6MHz channels with PSD>-0.8dBm/100KHz is allowed (while still maintaining total max power of 14dBm) May 2011 Ron Porat, Broadcom Slide 8

doc.: IEEE /0685r0 Submission Conclusions Channelization BW is quite limited outside the US and will most likely occupy the lowest end of our design. About 7MHz is available throughout Europe, China, Japan and Korea with restrictions on channel BW. 1MHz is the limit for Japan Need to consider spectral masks requirements since they may be tighter than current Need to verify regulations before committing to specific designs May 2011 Ron Porat, Broadcom Slide 9
