The use of mime techniques, acting without words, to tell a story. Pantomime The use of mime techniques, acting without words, to tell a story.

Pantomime is a specialized area of creative acting. Pantomime tells a story. It has a beginning. It has a middle or turning point ( bright idea). It has a definite ending.

Pantomime and Mime are different. Pantomime is a Latin word. Pantomime means “all gestures used in support of a theme”. Pantomime revolves around character and plot, to tell a story. Mime is a Greek word. Mime means “ to imitate an activity”. Mime’s main activity is movement and often performs one action.

Pantomime/Mime Pantomime is the extended use of mime techniques to tell a story. In pantomime you should show what is happening, not tell. Mime is the silent acting of using body movements to create an illusion of reality. To be a successful mime you must know how to do an action and why you do it.

Pantomime/ Mime skits to perform: Brush your teeth in front of the mirror. Put on make up in front of the mirror. Shave your face in front of the mirror.

Directions for pantomime skits: Make sure you have a beginning, middle and ending. Ex. Wake up, look in mirror, smell breath, decide to brush teeth, then proceed. The ending could be that you smell your clean breath then smile! You should mentally visualize the size, shape, weight, shape and color of the items you use. Make slow and deliberate actions. You should count your steps.

Directions for mime skits: Perform the action of brushing your teeth in front of the mirror. The mirror is another student who performs opposite of you. Your actions need to be slow, deliberate and counted.
