ARE YOU READY FOR INTERVIEW DAY?

Thoughts About Dress: Before you say a word, you have made an impression. 80% of what people think about you is based on how you look. Impressions are made in the first 3 minutes of an interview. The purpose of your clothing is to project an image of professionalism and confidence. When in doubt – go conservative. It’s better to be over dressed than underdressed! Dress for success and to impress!!!

WHAT NOT TO DO!! If it shines, glitters or glows---it goes. One earring for each ear, hence the word pair. No other body piercing! If your scent precedes you into a room, it’s time for a shower or less cologne. If a small pet can nest in your hair, you probably need a new style. Nails shouldn’t be considered lethal weapons. If shoes can’t be worn all day–put them away for play. Save showing your skin for the beach.

How To Dress For The Best Possible Outcome Research the prospective employer. Wear an outfit that fits you well and that you feel good wearing. Try on outfit several days in advance. Remember – clean, neat, pressed. No bulging pockets, sagging linings or missing buttons. Hair, nails and body – clean and groomed.

Colors Dark solid colors are best. Blue--#1 choice Grey Brown Black Maroon Beige or tan Avoid pastels

Actual Outfit BEST CHOICES: Suit Long sleeved shirt and tie Dress or skirt with a blazer Dress with matching jacket Tailored dress—no prints Pantsuit – Check out first to see if considered acceptable attire for business

Blouse or Shirt White, cream or blue (generally acceptable for men and women) Co-ordinate with suit No yellow, orange or red Avoid linen Soft, fine gauge sweater is OK Go conservative with tie selection—no Mickey Mouse

Shoes Clean and polished!!!! Dark colors are best (lace up shoes for men) Low to moderate heel Closed heel and toe Avoid bright colors NO PURSE!! Carry a briefcase or small portfolio. Hose/Socks ** Tan or skin colored hose are best for women—off black is OK if skirt is black ** Dark socks for men ** No runs, no patterns ** Bring extra pair of hose

Grooming & Accessories Neat, professional hairstyle. No beards—well trimmed mustache. Minimal jewelry—none that makes noise (real if you have it). Subtle make-up and perfume/after shave. Clean manicured nails. Freshly bathed – deodorant a must! Clean teeth and fresh breath. NO GUM!!!!!

Interview Day!!!!! Allow yourself time: To get organized To get dressed To get there on time Remember to: Walk tall—sit tall Smile Make eye contact Be Yourself Relax GET THE JOB!!
