A suitable case study of Wat Rajadhivas Vihara Located on the east Bank of the Chao Phraya River Very old Buddhist temple named Wat Samorai Was renamed “Wat Rajadhivas Vihara” by King Rama IV because It was monk residence of his father-King Rama II, his younger uncle-Maha Senanurak the front palace and himself This royal Buddhist temple was always restored under royal patronage of the “Palaces” from the reign of King Rama I to the present reign of King Rama IX

Research Results The relationship between the “Palaces” and the Buddhist temples in Rattanakosin Period Wat Prasrirattana Sasadaram 9 Kings of Chari Dynasty

Rattanakosin Period King Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke the Great or King Rama I (6 April September 1809) The first monarch of Chakri Dynasty He founded the new capital : Rattanakosin His wishes - patronized Buddhism - protected the Kingdom - looked after people and nobilities He realized the importance of the Palaces and the Buddhist temples : cannot be separated and need to be dependable The importance of the Buddhist temples : - community halls - schools - centers of Art works - centers of Buddhist thought - places of everybody’s participation - monks were the community leaders

King Rama I’ s Buddhist activities Sorted out the scriptures Regulated the ecclesiastical laws Built/restored many Buddhist temples These activities were followed respectively by the later kings of Chakri Dynasty The “Palaces” (Chakri Kings and the Royalty) began the relationship with the Buddhist temples

The “Palaces” have close relationship with the Buddhist temples that were established or were regarded by the Kings as the royal temples about 290 royal temples on 2008 A.D. Wat Prasrirattana Sasadaram within the Grand Palace is the first royal temple of Rattanakosin period The “Palaces” have closer relationship with 8 royal temples such as being regarded as the official “Temple of King Rama” The relationship in Rattanakosin Period
