Seismic Stratigraphy EPS 444 Dr. Faisal A. Alqahtani
Course Outline This course aims to provide an overview of the fundamentals of seismic reflection data interpretation from a geological perspective Course Description – Seismic reflection principles, application of seismic parameters and attributes to determine the depositional environment and fluid contents of the strata with the emphasis on the applied general principles of analysis of seismic attributes which lead to the evaluation and expectation of the target strata. Course Objectives – determine the structural style and timing of key structural events during the evolution of a sedimentary basin. – determine the structural style and timing of key structural events during the evolution of a sedimentary basin – determine the stratigraphic infill of sedimentary basins – By completing the course, students should be able to: Understand the limitations associated with interpreting 2D and 3D post stack seismic data Generate synthetic seismograms Construct 3D structural and stratigraphic models Utilize industrial software and computer workstation toward seismic interpretation
Course Outline General References for the Course: (Books/Journals…etc.) – Students in this course can read from: – Interpretation of Three-Dimensional Seismic Data, by Brown, A.R., Central Library, Call No BRO. Course Outcome – At the end of the course, participants will be able to reconstruct the structural and stratigraphic style of sedimentary basins in a variety of settings from seismic data alone
