2006 Census Test Site Cheyenne River Reservation and Off-Reservation Trust Land Overview  Test site was on the Cheyenne River Reservation and Off-Reservation Trust Lands  Initial ‘consultation’ with Tribal Chairman  Tribal Liaison  Partnership

2006 Census Test Objectives  To develop, test, assess, and improve enumeration methods on American Indian Reservations.  To implement a Tribal Liaison Program on American Indian Reservations.  To develop, implement and assess a consultation process with the Tribe and/or Tribal Leaders.  To implement methods to improve within household coverage on American Indian Reservations.

5 American Indian and Alaska Native Program conducts 2007 Tribal consultation meetings The consultation meetings aim to:  Build on the government-to-government relationship in preparation for the census  Gain input from the tribes to help to improve within household coverage  Increase the response rate for the census, and  Obtain information on topics pertinent to the census in Indian Country and Alaska

13 Technical Assistance continued  Access current and more detailed data and maps for American Indian and Alaska Native (AIAN) areas in the American FactFinder at:  Census Information Centers (CICs) are recognized as official sources of demographic, economic, and social statistics produced by the U.S. Census Bureau. CICs provide training and technical assistance to tribal governments in accessing and using Census Bureau data for research, program administration, and planning. There are four American Indian organizations that are CIC members.
