 First incorporated as the London Institute in 1989, University of the Arts London was formally inaugurated in May  The six Colleges that make up the University – Camberwell College of Arts, Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design, Chelsea College of Art and Design, London College of Communication, London College of Fashion and Wimbledon College of Art – have origins dating back to the mid 19th century.  Wimbledon School of Art merged with the University in  Fourteen current Royal Academicians have studied and/or taught at UAL.  Elight alumni and staff included in the 2013 Power List of Britain's most influential black people.

 London has the largest student population of any British city, although not the highest per capita.  London has hosted the Summer Olympics three times: in 1908, 1948, and [262][263] London was chosen in July 2005 to host the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, making it the first city to host the modern Games three times.
