Affirmative and Negative Informal Commands (Mandatos en la forma de tú Afirmativos y negativos)

When you tell someone to do something, you are giving an affirmative command. Here are some affirmative commands you might give to a person you address as tú:

Affirmative Commands Linda, saca la basura. Pablo, apaga las luces por favor. Cristóbol, sirve la cena ahora.

Affirmative Commands Notice that command forms are usually the same forms that we use for él / ella / Ud. in the present tense.

Affirmative Commands Stem changing verbs keep their stem change in the command form. Just use the Ud. él and ella form of the PRESENT TENSE!

Affirmative Commands Certain verbs, like salir, tener, venir, poner, ir, decir hacer, and ser, have irregular command forms.

Negative Tú Commands Verbs ending in -car, -gar, and -zar have the following spelling changes in negative tú commands in order to maintain the original sound.

Negative Tú Commands All of these verbs form their negative tú commands according to the regular rule.

Negative Tú Commands Some verbs, such as ir, estar, dar and ser, have irregular negative tú command forms.

Placement of Object Pronouns with Commands end 1. If it is the object of an affirmative command, then attach it to the end of the command. ( watch for accents) lo ie...Cómelo. (Eat it.) Think: AA….. ADJECTIVE….ATTACH !

Placement of Object Pronouns with Commands negative in front 2. If it is the object of a negative command, then place it in front of the command. lo ie...No lo comas. (Don’t eat it.)

Examples 1.Open your Spanish book. 2. Go to the school. 3. Listen please. 4. Eat all the vegetables. 5. Wash yourself now. 1. Abre tu libro de español. 2. Ve al colegio. 3. Escucha, por favor. 4. Come todas las legumbres. 5. Lávate ahora.

Examples 1.Don’t open your Spanish book. 2. Don’t go to the school. 3. Don’t listen please. 4. Don’t eat all the vegetables. 5. Don’t wash yourself now. 1. No abras tu libro de español. 2. No vayas al colegio. 3. No escuches, por favor. 4. No Comas todas los vegetales. 5. No te laves ahora.
