Promote the health and wellness of the students and community by incorporating fun activities aimed at:  Increasing fruit & vegetable consumption  Increasing physical activity  Decreasing recreational screen time (IPod, video games, computers, TV)

 Walking Club  Take 10  March to patriotic song  Playground laps (walk, jog or run)  “Activate your brain to learn” activities (next slide)  School Garden Spring 2014 or 2015  Partnerships with community groups and businesses  Other exciting events to come!

 Wellness Warriors  Move it Monday  “I want to move it, move it”  Twist it Tuesday  “Twist & Shout”  Work it Wed  “Boom, Boom, Pow”  Turn it Thursday  “Hula Hoop Song”  Funky Fri  “Everybody’s workin for the weekend”

 Wellness warriors (WW)  Chosen from committed students to lead class in movement activities for one month  Photo on WW board  “You got caught” slips  Receive when caught eating fruits/vegetables  Entered into drawing for prizes each month (bowling, ice skating, etc)

 Complete pre and post Survey  Commit to increase fruit & vegetable consumption, increase physical activity and decrease recreational screen time.  Used to compare results of our initiatives  All who participate will be entered into a drawing to win the GRAND PRIZE

Procedural evaluation:  We Can!® procedural evaluation  Monmouth County Department of Weights and Measures will calibrate scales within 3 months prior to measurements.  Annual measurement will be performed each September.  CDC Tools for Schools  procedural outline that each facilitator will utilize the following:  Follow procedural outline: Recruit PTA members, staff members & students Kick off at beginning of school year Increase consumption of fruits and vegetables Increase activity by at least 60 minutes every week  Walking club two times per week by 30 min Extra 12 min per day In class/after lunch
