Constellations in the Night Sky By Ms. Ray’s Class

Introduction Constellations are clusters of stars that humans have named so that they can readily find and identify them in the night sky. Many of the constellations have their own legends. In this presentation, you will learn about some of our favorite constellations. Maybe you can find some of these constellations in the night sky where you live.

Table of Contents Aries the Ram Orion the Hunter and Warrior

Aries the Ram Aries is a small constellation. It can be seen in the night sky during late winter and early spring. It is near Taurus (to the east), Pisces (to the west), and Cetus (to the south).

Aries the Ram According to Greek mythology, Aries was sent to rescue two children who were being mistreated by their stepmother. The children escaped by clinging to Aries’ fleece. Later, when Aries died, his fleece turned to gold.

Orion the Hunter and Warrior Orion can be seen in the night sky from October through March. Orion was used by farmers. When they saw Orion, farmers knew it was time to harvest grapes.

Orion the Hunter and Warrior According to Greek mythology, Orion was so tall, he could wade through any sea. Orion was stung by a scorpion and died. That is why you never see Orion in the sky at the same time you see Scorpio in the sky.
