CIT and the Warrior Transition Battalion: A Great Collaborative Partnership Presented by: Kyle Shipps & Steve McCorkill Capt. Joshua Mantz 2012 CIT International Conference

BACKGROUND: KS Law Enforcement CIT Council Formed in 2003 Comprised of 12 members from law enforcement, mental health providers, district attorney’s office, and family advocacy groups Provides 40 hour CIT training to area officers, as well as state-wide through agreement with state police academy

KS Law Enforcement CIT Council

Uniqueness of the Council One of the first programs to incorporate the DA’s Office into the planning and implementation of CIT Training Contracted by KLETC to provide CIT training statewide through a private donation 2011-Partnership formed with the Warrior Transition Battalion at Ft. Riley, KS

Why is This Partnership Important? On average, one Veteran is committing suicide per day Many returning veterans transition to civilian life immediately after deployment ends Often, civilian law enforcement is unprepared for the challenges this presents

Warrior Transition Battalion

Mission of the WTB Establish conditions for healing and promote the timely return to the force or transition to a productive Veteran within the Community
