Viewing Art They believed in beasts such as Dragons, in myths and legends, to explain life’s various phenomena. They did not have science and technology to explain the unknown. Today, we no longer need myths and legends to serve the same purpose. Or do we?

Activity The poem uses many long sentences, with clauses separated by commas. The poet uses long, rolling sentences for dramatic effect. ACTIVITY: Rewrite the first sentence of “Battle with Grendel” breaking it down into 2-3 shorter sentences.
