A LONG-STANDING TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE Get Up, Get Active BACKGROUND: The funding for the “Get Up, Get Active“ has been secured from Sport England’s “Active Colleges” funding stream. Active Colleges aims to increase the number of FE students in England regularly participating (at least 1x30minutes per week) in sport. The “Get Up Get Active” project aims to provide enrichment sporting activities, provide links to local sports clubs and organise friendly fixtures against other Colleges.

A LONG-STANDING TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE Get Up, Get Active Get Up, Get Active aims to provide Nelson and Colne college students and staff an enhanced offer of competitive and non- competitive sports and physical activities. Whether it’s dancing to fitness with Zumba or snow ploughing down the ski slopes, Get Up, Get Active wants to create a healthier you. If you fancy a giggle with your mates, playing competitively or improving self-esteem through weight loss, there are opportunities and events for everyone.

A LONG-STANDING TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE The Role We are looking for students to facilitate the Get Up, Get Active Enrichment programme in numerous roles, including: Coaching Workforce Promotions and marketing Events management

A LONG-STANDING TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE The Role Coaching Workforce – work alongside our qualified coaches helping with set up of drills, taking register and taking warm-ups (if experienced) Promotions and marketing – updating twitter and Facebook. Handing out flyers, and updating noticeboards Events management – assisting with tournaments and fixtures Recruiter – be an ambassador for the sports we deliver. Speak to other students, go into tutorials

Creative and innovative Enthusiastic, energetic and approachable Do you have: An interest in sport and an enthusiasm for increasing participation Commitment to working for the welfare of students You do not have to be studying sport or play at a high level

A LONG-STANDING TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE Coaching Workforce Looking for people to assist in enrichment programme in return for training and coaching qualifications Enrichment involves activities such as: Table tennis and badminton Student and staff football league 5 a-side Volleyball Rugby Tennis Netball Hockey Dodge ball

A LONG-STANDING TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE What is involved? The College is looking for at least 5 enrichment ambassadors Hours: vary per week. We are looking for a commitment of one hour per week –Hours will be decided between yourselves, Alexis and Anna. You must commit to those hours – not pick and choose –We work around your timetable. Your studies come first! Payment: in return for your hours you will be given credits that go towards training courses and sporting activities We would like each student to be a recruiter for at least one of the sports offered

Meeting new people Improving your CV improving self-confidence having fun giving back to the College community In return for the hours you have committed (turns into credits) we will place you on training courses such as:  First Aid  Safeguarding in Sport  Working with disabled people in Sport  Level one coaching courses or activator courses  Umpiring/refereeing level one for chosen sport These are YOUR qualifications and transferable to job roles

A LONG-STANDING TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE How does the credit system work For every hour volunteered you will receive £10 in credit. This is not redeemable (you will not be given £10 in cash) You can gain extra credits by tweeting, facebooking and recruiting new students The College will work with you in paying for the cost of courses, training or qualifications of your choice

A LONG-STANDING TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE How to sign-up Complete the application form provided You will be given an interview time and date Attend the interview You will be notified in one week as to the outcome Attend training afternoon and decide on areas in which you would like to work – Marketing/ face to face promotion / sports coaching / organisation of friendly fixtures / student recruitment Get Up and Get Active!
