At 6280km long the Amazon river is the 2 nd longest river in the world (the Nile is longest.) The Amazon river is in South America. The Amazon is surrounded by a rain forest which is host to 300 species of mammal and thousands of other creatures, such as Toucan, Anaconda and lots of insects.

o The Amazon river is home to piranha a type of carnivorous fish! o The Amazon has it’s own sand junes! o The Amazon river is the home to the pink river dolphin! o The Amazon is home to many tribes! o The Amazon river runs past the Andes!

The Amazon river’s Source is in Calillona, Peru, and it’s Delta (mouth) is in North Eastern Brazil. Therefore it reaches right across South America! The Amazon river also Meanders (twists and turns in different directions) a lot which in time will probably lead to a lot of ox- bows (when the river eventually short cuts through the harder land after wearing it down.)

The Amazon River is used for many different things. These include fishing, drinking source, and even a bathing hole for some of the tribes that live in the rainforest which surrounds the river. It is also used to transport goods, and of course it’s home to all kinds of wildlife too.

Though it may not seem like it the Amazon river is always changing as it erodes the rock away soon creating ox-bows everywhere. In 2010 a severe drought hit the Amazon river causing fish to die and soon after the famous pink river dolphin was effected too this was all due too climate change and the increase of green house gases.

To conclude the Amazon river is a beautiful place full of wildlife and endangered species‘. In fact for some animals it has become the last place on earth you can see these amazing creatures.
